Today I'm going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster Stowaway Storage System with rear access. Part number RM-4000-40. Here's what it looks like. As you can see it's nice powder coated steel design, with galvanized hardware. It's going to use the same quick release design that for Guardian Defense on the base plate uses. You can use your pins as well. And it's an easy access by loosening up our set screw, taking out our pin, we can lift off our bracket to gain access to the back of our coaches hinge department.
When you leave this in place while you're towing, you can simply route your wires through this nice cutout. Fits in our bracket. This is really handy if you're going to stowaway your Guardian when your vehicle is not being towed and keep it on the back of your RV, not having to use up the storage space in your RV. Now that we've covered some features, we'll show you how it goes on. You're going to slip it down. We'll put in this pin. It's included.
And clip. Then we can tighten up this thumb screw to help keep it nice and secure. Now the other brackets installed loosely in place and we're going to take our Guardian and set it in the . In there and help us adjust the distance we need between the two uprights. We tighten up our thumb screws. It's going to help insure it's in the upright position.
To keep our Guardian secure; we'll put the clips that come with it in place; we'll just take two 3/4 inch wrenches and we can snug them up. We'll repeat that for the other side. Now, you can loosen up your set screw and adjust it up little closer to your RV if you like. Then secure it. Now should you need access to the engine compartment in your RV, you can pull out the clip, take out the pin. Loosen up our set crew and just lift the entire thing out to gain access to your engine compartment. That's going to do it for our look at the Roadmaster Stowaway Storage System with rear access.

Very easy to install. Works great for the GuardianShield. I did have to purchase a
7-3/4" hitch extension (RM-071-075) in order to clear the ladder but it's exactly what I was looking for. It is also well built. Received item as advertised. Will definitely order from etrailer again!
The only mod I had to do was buy a hitch extension as my tow bar was too short to mount the storage bracket.
Received the Stow-a-way and took me less than an hour to put the fittings on and install on the rear of the motorhome. It fits a little close to the motorhome so may have to get an extension for the hitch.
Am very satisfied with the quality and compactness of the Stow-a-way. I had some extra mounting brackets for the tow bar and installed them and now I can stow my tow bar and Gaurdian shield on the rear of the coach when I am not traveling.

A great improvement over the earlier Roadmaster Stowaway. No longer need to remove complete tow bar to take off Storage System at end of season.
There are several things to take into consideration, when purchasing the Stowaway. First, the rear of your RV must be relatively flat. Other objects can also get into the way. In my case, it was my roof ladder and engine exhaust tip. They come into contact with the Guardian and prevent me from fully inserting it into the Stowaway brackets. Because of this, I am not able to use the Guardian's bottom quick clips to help secure it. And since the Guardian actually rests atop my exhaust tip, I will have to make sure the tip is cool before placing the Guardian onto the Stowaway. This of course means I will not be able to drive the RV through a campground with it in place. Disappointing, but not a deal breaker, at least for me. Still glad I was able to coax it to fit, even if not as designed.
The etrailer order was processed and shipped incredibly quickly. I am very pleased with the whole ordering/shipping process and etrailer seems to be really on the ball here.
One of the hardware bags had opened inside the box, and a washer fell out as I carried the box in, but remarkably, all parts were there with no shortages. The box itself had no obvious external damage, so not sure what happened, but everything is good.
The product is great for storing the Guardian shield and the large bar of the roadmaster tow adaptor.
You have to look carefully at the assembly instructions as the labels on the disconnect pieces say driver/passenger side, while the diagram shows the opposite orientation. Obviously, this can happen when the same part is used for several purposes.
The one suggestion I would have on the catalog listing is to mention the point that a receiver extension might be needed depending on clearance of the motorhome hitch. While this is obvious in retrospect, a reminder would be useful.
Before purchasing the Stowaway I had to either dismantle the Guardian or place it on the ground under the coach. Now it's secure behind the coach. Easy to move from dinghy to hitch.
Handy place to store Rock Shield when parked. A little difficult to use. I went to Lowe's and bought some threaded knobs to replace the small thumb-screws furnished with the unit to fasten it down. Fit over hitch bar is a bit slack and could be better.
The product was exactly as stated. Great quality of material, easy to assemble.

Now I have a place to store my tow shield rather than trying to slide it under my RV and it's now right next to my tow car and hitch. Great solution for me!

Roadmaster tow hitch with rock guard and bracket. Works great. I especially like the way the lights work on the hitch. The rock guard has protected the vehicle so far. The bracket has not been used much because I simply dont use it for short visits. Before and after tech support was super.
