  • Are Magnesium Anode Rods Available For An RV Water Heater
Hi Dave, The magnesium anode rods that we offer are all 1/2" diameter # CAM11593 so you'll want to check your local hardware store to find a 3/4" diameter magnesium rod to match the size of the # CAM11563.

  • Replacement Anode for Suburban RV Water Heater
It is possible that there could be some corrosion or even simply some built-up sediment within the threads of your water heater that is making it tough to get the new anode rod threaded. You can try gently cleaning the threaded receptacle in the tank with a nylon bristle tube brush # 814092 or a wire brush # DW00254 to remove any accumulated rust or grit that could be blocking the threads. Sometimes it can be hard to get your hand in the right place the start the threads if there is also...

  • Is an Anode Rod Necessary for RV Water Heater
I definitely recommend adding an anode rod to your water heater if one is not already present. An anode rod can drastically extend the life of your water heater by attracting corrosive elements, protecting the tank from corrosion. We do have a nice selection of anode rods available, for which I have provided a link. If you can tell me the brand and capacity of your water heater, I will be happy to recommend an anode rod that should work well. For example, the Camco RV Water Heater Anode...

  • Recommended Anode Rod For RV Water Heater Based On Material
Both metals help to protect your tank. There are only a few people that have a preference and it is normally based on aluminium being lower on the Galvanic Scale than magnesium so it produces less driving current between the anode and cathode (tank). They believe that this means aluminum doesn't do as good a job protecting the tank sides as well as magneisum. You will find that plumbers will use either one on home or RV systems. My recommendation is to go with the mangesium anode like...

  • Re-taping Threads on the Inside of Water Heater to Fit Anode Rod
Before you consider re-tapping the threads, re-check to make sure you have the right sized Anode Rod. I reached out to my contact at Suburban and they advised me that your water heater has a 3/4" NPT (National Pipe Threading) and it has 12 threads inch. After you have confirmed that you have the correct sized Anode Rod which is # CAM11563 and it still will not screw in, it is okay to retap the threads on the inside.

  • Camco Aluminum vs. Magnesium Hot Water Anode Rod
The difference is aluminum hot water anode rods do not corrode as fast as magnesium because aluminum corrodes slower. Between the Camco hot water anode rods we carry, there is a size difference in the diameter, and the correct one depends on the hot water heater you have: - 10-gallon Atwood: Camco RV Water Heater Anode Rod - Magnesium - 1/2" Diameter x 9-1/2" Long # CAM11593 - Suburban (Mor-Flo): Camco RV Water Heater Anode Rod - Aluminum - 3/4" Diameter x 9-1/2" Long # CAM11563

  • Replacement Anode Rod For An RV Water Heater In A Grand Design Transcend Travel Trailer 265BH
Hi Kathi, Anode rods are sacrificial hunks of metal that are designed to deteriorate so that the metal of the tank won't. A bit more length for the rod would just mean that this new anode rod would last longer. Most RV water heaters require an anode rid with a 3/4" NPT thread size so you'll want to measure the opening to see if the 1/2" # CAM11593 would be a compatible fit. When you open the door there should be a few stickers with some information about the water heater and the model...
