Your RV water heater tank is made of aluminum. But water is corrosive to aluminum. Simply removing the plastic water heater drain plug or used anode rod and replacing it with Camco's RV water heater anode rod can prevent this corrosion and prolong the life of your water heater, preventing an expensive replacement. Camco's RV water heater anode rod is made of magnesium which will corrode itself first so that your water heater tank doesn't. You can see the corrosion that is beginning on this anode rod that we have removed from the water heater. Here is what a new anode rod looks like.

Bought this anode rod after seeing the crud come out while draining the hot water tank during winterization. Yup, I was told an anode rod was not necessary, however I'm going to find out for myself.
