The difference is aluminum hot water anode rods do not corrode as fast as magnesium because aluminum corrodes slower. Between the Camco hot water anode rods we carry, there is a size difference in the diameter, and the correct one depends on the hot water heater you have:

- 10-gallon Atwood: Camco RV Water Heater Anode Rod - Magnesium - 1/2" Diameter x 9-1/2" Long # CAM11593

- Suburban (Mor-Flo): Camco RV Water Heater Anode Rod - Aluminum - 3/4" Diameter x 9-1/2" Long # CAM11563
