Re-taping Threads on the Inside of Water Heater to Fit Anode Rod

Question:

Im having a problem getting the anode rod to screw in. I think my threads are gone or I have at sometime crossed thread it. My question is can I retap the threads on the inside. Thanks.

Before you consider re-tapping the threads, re-check to make sure you have the right sized Anode Rod. I reached out to my contact at Suburban and they advised me that your water heater has a 3/4" NPT (National Pipe Threading) and it has 12 threads inch. After you have confirmed that you have the correct sized Anode Rod which is # CAM11563 and it still will not screw in, it is okay to retap the threads on the inside.
