Video Transcript for TruRyde Trailer Suspension TRSS175 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at a spring seat for typical 2,000 pound, round trailer axles, with a 1-3/4 inch diameter. The spring seat is a necessary component of your trailer's suspension system. When mounted with a 1-3/4 inch wide leaf spring, it adds extra support and provides proper positioning for the axle. This unit's made from a durable steel construction. It welds on to a round 1-3/4 inch diameter axle, which is a typical 2,000 axle. It sits on top of a 1-3/4 inch wide spring. The cut out on the flat side of the seat surrounds the raised knob on the leaf spring to prevent turning or shifting.

It's going to provide extra support and secure positioning for the trailer axle. Please note that two spring seats are required for each axle. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. Start with the overall length, measuring edge to edge. It's going to measure about 2-1/4 of an inch long. Overall width, measures about 1-7/8 of an inch.

The height, is just shy of 1 inch, about 15/16 of an inch tall. Then this opening, right here, the rounded point, at the widest spot, that's going to give us an opening measurement of really close to an 1-1/2, maybe 1-7/16 of an inch, right in that area. That's going to do it for today's look at the spring seat for typical 2,000 pound, round trailer axles, with a 1-3/4 inch diameter.

Great fit spring seats worked perfectly

by:

I havent really gotten a chance to use the trailer much since my purchase of the leaf springs. But they went on perfect and the stance is perfect. With a weight load , they should be just right.

by:

These brackets used in conjunction with the new u-bolt kit made switching my trailer axle from being above spring to under spring.
This has raised the trailer about 3 inches in height from stock. I have a new set of wheel and tires coming and this should take care of the slight slope as seen in the picture.
After installing everything, I took the trailer for a test drive and it tracked nicely and behaved very good on the road. No problems.

by:

First and foremost, working with etrailer was a pleasure. They were veery helpful in many ways. Secondly, Theproducts I purchased were exactly what I needed. I flipped the axle on my utility trailer in order to beef up the springs and use larger tires. The u-bolt kits were oerfect, and after having the spring seats welded onto the axle the rest of the job went smoothly. All in all 5 out of 5.

by:

Perfect for an axle leaf over mod. Welded on easily and appear very sturdy. I need to rebuild the hubs and complete the frame modifications before reinstalling the axle.

by:

I was adding some supports to a trailer deck for a friend and noticed the spring seats were rusted away, found the parts quickly on etrailer shipping was fast and the trailer is ready to get back on the road.

The spring seats and u bolts kit were very reasonably priced and do the job they are supposed to do.

by:

so far so good, just did a shake down test, all good. The trailer went straight and true. Now just waiting on my other order to come in so I can put some weight on the truck and trailer for the real test.

by:

These nests are kind of hard to get wrong really. I welded them into position, haven’t thought about them since. So,… I mean,… that’s good right?

by:

Super fast shipping

by:

The only mistake I made was not ordering two axle saddles. I thought my order was for a pair, so I only ordered one. My mistake.

by:

Solid, took a weld like a champ!

by:

Plus:
Good products for a super low
price. Accomplished the goal of bringing life back to a dead trailer. The leaf springs ride much better than the stock rubber torsion axle. The new hubs and bearings roll much easier than the worn out ones they replaced.

Minus:
A little disappointed in the spring bushing. It seemed like cheap plastic and was quite a bit larger than the bolt so it fit loosely. This was the only real negative I have about the purchased, and that's pretty minor.

Tips for etrailer:
Providing a height of the spring would make spring selection easier. In our case we were starting with scratch for mounting springs, no preexisting mounting hardware. Knowing the height of the spring from mount to axle would have been helpful in selecting a spring for the proper ride height. In a snowmobile trailer application an inch or two in height makes a bit difference in approach angle when loading a sled. This was about the only measurement not listed for springs so we guessed, and it came out well for us in the end.

by:

Exactly what I needed.

by:

Excellent option when the right axle isnt. Fit was great.

by:

Bought these along with the UBolt kit for a Coleman popup camper to do an "axle flip" or move the axle from above the springs to below the springs giving 3-4 inches of additional clearance. My popup has a 1.75" axle and Dexter doesn't make prefab kits for that axle. Spring seats had to be welded to my axle, but beyond that, the axle flip worked OUTSTANDING! If you go off road at all with your camper, I can't recommend enough doing this. Should have done it years ago! Spring seats worked great!

Hey John, Im about to do the same thing to my 89 Coleman pop up. What u bolts did you use and what other items did you need? Just weld these opposite of the old ones and replace springs with u bolt?

John H.

6/5/2015

I ordered a couple of the 1- 3/4 U bolts from eTrailer as well. Yes, weld up the perches opposite the old ones but be sure to take some time to make sure theyre aligned both vertically and horizontally. I used a level to compare the top plane of the new perches with the bottom plane of the old ones with the axle upside down and clamped it in place before welding.

Thanks for responding to DC's question. The u-bolt kit that John is referencing is # APUBR-10.

I purchased a number of products from etrailer and I am very pleased with them all. The shipper lost my axle. When I contacted etrailer customer service, they handled my problem quickly and I had a replacement axle in a couple days. Well done!

The products were all of high quality and the assemble was much easier as a result. I have attached a few pictures of the build for those interested.

Thanks etrailer for your great products and service!!

The trailer has performed better than my expectations. The products I purchased are all performing perfectly. When I build my next trailer, I will get all my assemble products from etrailer.com

by:

The parts that fit the axel where included on the axel page and where just what I needed to adapt the axel to a smaller with trailer

by:

Needed "spring over" conversion on Teardrop type camper. Dexter axle required these to do it right. Perfect fit. Time from order to shipping was longer than anticipated. So parts, availability and knowledge are great, delivery time disappointing.

Your website was very user friendly as well.

Thanks for checking All working as needed

by:

Works as advertised. I had a local welder put these onto the axle for me. I ended up needing them since my harbor freight trailer had a metric dimensional spacing between the mounts and the axle I bought had a standard inches dimensional spacing. They were off by less than 1 inch, but I couldn't make it fit unless I welded on these brackets at the correct location for the trailer.

by:

Great product for mounting spring on top of axle just remember you have to weld them on

I have a Coleman Tent trailer and our favorite camp sites are off road. I decided to flip the axle to gain some off road clearances and level the trailer being towed by either my Truck or Jeep which have lift kits. I purchased these parts, installed and I am stoked! Great product and was easy to install. Parts were of great quality and shipped quickly. I will most definitely trust etrailer and highly recommend them. Thanks etrailer!!

  • Parts Required to do Over/Under Conversion on 1-3/4 Axle on Tractor Supply Trailer
From what I was able to determine the Tractor Supply trailer you have likely has a 2000-lbs axle on it, which has a 1-3/4" diameter axle. There isn't a specific over/under conversion kit for that size axle but you can use 2 of the spring seat # TRSS175 and weld them on either end of your axle and then use the # APUBR-10 u-bolts you were looking at to complete the process. It should be noted that you need to have a qualified welder perform the installation of the spring seats.

  • Can Spring Seats On Trailer Axle Be Moved To Match Trailer Frame?
They sure can! What you will need to do is replace the spring seats that are currently welded on the axle in question, and have a qualified welder weld them in the correct location to match your trailer. Now the correct spring seats will be dependent on the diameter of your axle tube. The most common sizes are the 1-3/4" # TRSS175 which is common for 2000lb axles, the 2-3/8" # TRSS238 which is common for 3500lb axles, or the 3" # TRSS300 which are common for 5200-7000lb axles. • Parts Needed to Do an Over-Under Kit on a 1-3/4 inch Trailer Axle
When you use an over under kit like the part # K71-385-00 you end up gaining a lift that measures the diameter of your axle, plus the spring seat, and the thickness of your leaf springs. You will need to measure those items on your trailer to determine the amount of lift you would need. Since we don't have a kit designed to fit a 1-3/4 inch diameter axle, and since you aren't completely sure that is the diameter of your axle you will need to verify this before I can piece you together...

Since you are getting 62" inside to inside you are actually probably closer to 72" hub face to hub face. The closest standard axle we have to that length is the Dexter Trailer Idler Axle Beam with EZ-Lube Spindles - 72" Long - 2,200 lbs # T20BTR-EZ-7258 which has a hub face to hub face measurement of 72" and a spring center to spring center...

  • Adding Lift To 2003 Jayco Single Axle Tent Trailer
I spoke with my contact at Jayco about your 2003 single axle trailer. There is no lift kit available but we may have an option for you. If your 1-3/4 inch axle is round and you have underslung leaf springs, I recommend installing a new spring seat on top of the axle, like the Spring Seat for Typical 2000-lb, Round Trailer Axles, part # TRSS175. Simply flipping the axle is not an option because axles are made with a slight arc so that they can handle the load on the trailer. When placed...

With 2 of these you can have an axle welded up with 2 Spring Seats # TRSS175 in the dimensions you are needing. Then you will be able to attach the Brakes # AKEBRK-2 and Hub/Drums # 8-173-16UC3-EZ.

It is possible to replace your 62" long axle with a longer one. Our next size up is going to be a 72" long 2K rated axle like part # e32GR. The axle being 72" across measured from hub-face to hub-face. This axle comes with 5 on 4-1/2" idler hubs, which will allow for a ton of tire/wheel combos. In order to use our axle you would likely need to relocate the spring seats. We sell them individually with part # TRSS175. From the looks of things, you would need a new u-bolt kit # CE23000 as...

If you are okay with removing the fenders or going to a larger one that would probably be your simplest route and the way I would go if I were you. We don't have an axle over under kit for your axle size, but we could piece together one if you like. All you would need for an over-under kit for a 1-3/4 inch round axle would be the U-bolt kit part # APUBR-10 and the spring seat part # TRSS175. You would need two of the spring seats. This axle is the Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 60" Long - 2,000 lbs # e48GR. I do have an option for you but the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit part # K71-384-00 is for axles with a 2-3/8" diameter as they measure about 2-3/8" inside to inside so it likely will not work with a 2,000 lb axle which generally has a 1-3/4" diameter. However, you can make your own kit using both the U-Bolt Kit part # APUBR-10 and the Spring Seat part # TRSS175 (2).
