Video Transcript for TruRyde Trailer Suspension TRSS238 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at this spring seat for typical 3,500 pound round trailer axles with a 2 3/8" diameter. The spring seat is a necessary component of your trailer suspension system when mounted with a 1 3/4" or 2" wide leaf spring. It adds extra support and provides proper positioning for the axle. It's made from a durable steel construction. It would weld onto a 2 3/8" diameter axle which is a typical 3,500 pound axle. It sits on top of a 1 3/4" or 2" side leaf spring. The cutout on the flat side would surround the raised knob on the leaf spring to prevent turning in or shifting.

It simply provides that extra support and secure positioning for the trailer axle. Please note that two spring seats are required for each axle. A few measurements to go over with you real quick starting with the overall length. It's going to give us a measurement of 4" long. Overall width, it's going to measure about 1 7/8" wide. Height is about 1 1/4" tall, and this opening right here of this rounded area at the widest point, that's going to give us a measurement of about 2 1/8".

That's going to do it for today's look at the spring seat for typical 3,500 pound round trailer axles with a 2 3/8" diameter.

It looks like it will fit my 1954 Jeep CJ3-B Dana 44 axle tube, although it is 1/8" wider than ideal.

Worked great for my camper axle

Spring perches as described

Great to get these high quality suspension parts to finish the axle modification on my travel trailer. The thick gauge of the metal makes it easy to weld the parts in place. I appreciate that they were available without having to buy a entire axle tube assembly!

@Russ We're glad to hear that the # TRSS238 TruRyde spring seat worked well for you!

by:

When I recieved the product I was ready and excited to get it installed. I had to do an axle flip to gain frame clearance on my custom jeep trailer build and needed new axle perch mounts. After I triple stitch welded the steel It was a perfect fit, and a year later no problems and holds great.

by:

Perfect for installing updated axle in my 54 Chevy 3100. Thanks for the quality product and quick service.

by:

Fit great exactly what I needed.

by:

Everything looks good haven’t started p roject

by:

So when the order arrived I received only one spring seat to do an axle and when I called customer service the young lady was rude and made me feel stupid for not seeing the fine print that said I only get 1/2 the materials to do one spring. This year I have vowed to stop doing business with these type of companies that charge high prices and use underhanded tactics to do business. I will not be returning this because they want me to pay shipping and I also will not be ordering anything else due to the way they treat customers like they have the monopoly.

So far so good , installation went well, used it several times with a good load no problems yet

by:

These worked like they should with the axle and u-bolts.

by:

I bought springs, mounts and Tailight kit to fix up a rusty utility trailer. I cut, weld scraped and painted for the better part of a month in spare time. The springs and mounting instructions on e trailer are excellent. Only issue/shortcoming are the tail lights. Wire just pushes in and spring loaded strip holds them. I soldered and sealed the connection with silicone. So far that salt covered roads haven't hurt it in winter. The folks at etrailer are very helpful and prices are a good value.

by:

Great price, arrived in a very timely manner, quality of materials is great. I'm very happy with mu shopping experience.

by:

worked perfect for what they're designed to do

by:

Exactly what was needed.

by:

This product fit perfectly to the axle I had.
I didn't get a good picture but if you look closely you can see one of them.

by:

I used the seats to reposition my springs from the lying under the axle of my TT to sitting on top of the axle. This gave me about 4.5 in of additional much needed ground clearance.
The cut and sizing of the seats was spot on and made for and easy axle flip.
I opted to use these and the U-bolt and plate kit instead of the Dexter spring over kit and saved about $50. I did the entire job start to finish in 3 hours.
One thing to note is that if you are looking to flip the position of your axles from the top to the bottom like I did. You are also going to have to lengthen your brake lines also.

by:

Very satisfied with the product. I recently purchased 2 new dextor axles locally which came with springs mounted underneath. My application required the springs to be mounted on top of the axle and so I intended to remove the springs, flip the axles over, and bolt the springs back on. Unfortunately I realized this could not be done due to the axle tube being factory cambered (bent slightly upwards) and so i then searched and found these spring seats at a reasonable price and fit perfectly. It was by far easier to leave the original seats in place as guides and weld these new seats on. Also of note these seats are slightly larger than the factory Dextor seats. Thank you etrailer.com for a great product and quick shipping.

by:

Product is an excellent, cost efficient way to get the ground clearance needed for your single axle camper. I gained 5.5 inches of clearance at the lowest hanging plumbing parts which allows me to pull my camper over water bars and roadside swales. Also, had to upgrade to a two-step staircase to accommodate access to camper with the new height.
Simple install if you have access to a welder. No other parts/materials needed.

by:

These are an awesome upgrade to your trailer with 13" tires
These went on a Coleman tent trailer. This is the big one with all the stuff making it heavy. The old load range C tires look like it was run on the sidewalls of the tire as the trailer is heavy. The new load range D tires with the extra 15 psi (65) made the difference. Looks normal now. I also ordered the 3,500 axle leaf spring perches. Going to weld them to the top of the axle to mount the springs above the axle. This gains 4.25" lift. Needed as it drags just going out of the driveway lol

by:

Rebuilding a home made trailer, we used it to haul large round bales. Needless to say was getting pretty rough. We are planning on using it to haul our UTVs now so we are down grading from a 15000 lb trailer to a 10000 lb trailer. We purchased 3 used 3500 lb axles and with the kits we purchased from you it has made the swap over very easy, everything fit prefect, Thanks

by:

Trailer definitely rides smoother and better over rough roads.

by:

2 3/8" spring pads, welded on. Were great for swapping axle over to axle under setup. Achieved 5 1/4" lift making my fifth wheel taller. Tall enough for a newer truck with taller stance.

by:

Seems to be a perfect replacement to the original - maybe in the spring time I'll get them installed.

Absolutely Fantastic

Have not installed it yet so I can't review the product. I can tell you that etrailer's customer service is top notch. I called about a shipping delay after I placed my order. They assured me it would only be a day and not a week like my order confirmation said. Called back the next day and my order was already shipped. Good people to do business with.

  • Which Replacement Dexter 3500 lb Axle To Replace Dexter 3K8874
The 1 inch longer hub face of the # 35545E-ST-89 works out to 1/2 inch longer on each side, which isn't a big deal at all. That won't cause a problem. You'll really want the spring centers to be right on, though so the best thing to do would be to grind the existing spring perches off and replace them with new ones tacked in the correct position using part # TRSS238. Dimensionally speaking, all three axles are identical. Part # 35545E-ST-89 includes quality Dexter hub/drums and brake...

  • How to Change Spring Center on e65GR Trailer Axle
In order to change the spring center on the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # e65GR you will need to cut off the existing spring seats. Once they have been removed, you will need to have # TRSS238 welded on to match your 72" measurement. If you have some kind of adjustable bracket I do not recommend using it. There should be no way for the leaf springs to move horizontally along the axle aside from moving the spring seat.

I would be happy to help! We do sell spring seats by themselves, and you are correct that with your 2021 Forest River Grey Wolf 26DBH being so new that the U-bolts and U-bolt plates should still be in good enough shape to be reused instead of purchasing an entire kit. Based on the information I was able to find on your trailer it should have tandem 3500lb axles in which case you would need four of the spring seats # TRSS238 which will need to be welded onto your axle by a qualified welder...
