These Titan Chain diamond-pattern chains are great winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get frequent snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. The links on these chains are thicker than the links on most other low-profile snow chains on the market, so they'll wear better and last longer. But they're still lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Slide chains behind the tire

2. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Make connections behind the tire

3. Connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Attach green hook to yellow side chains

4. Around front, connect the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook at the top of the tire.

Feed tensioner through clips

5. At the bottom of the tire, feed the silver tensioning chain through the red channel bracket and pull it taut. Then run the tensioner through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire.

Recheck tension

6. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire. Pull your vehicle forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the tension.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

For ease of installation, these snow chains are great! The only problem I had was on my right rear, the tensioning chain could not be tightened enough going through the rings the way the instructions showed. I ended up going to the far ring first, then back to the middle, then across the wheel. Only for tensioning (doesn’t pull the chains offsides at all), so I think my solution worked well. Kelsey S. was a wonder to work with! This was my first foray into snow chains, so she guided me through my options, explaining every benefit and need for the ice/snow conditions expected. I put the chains on my 2015 Ram 2500 4x4 long bed relatively quickly considering my inexperience.

No snow yet but the practice installation went great! So simple my 6 year-old helped make sure I was following the instructions properly. Time will tell if I need them and how they work in the upcoming North Idaho snow plowing season. Fit great on my 275/70R18 tires. I appreciate the carrying case they came with, also!

Sounds like you had a big helper to make sure you were doing it right. Have a safe snow plow season and keep us updated on how they worked for you.

2014 Toyota Tundra

I got the chains and tired them on tonight and they seem big. With the tension all the way tight there was still slop in the chain system. It definitely seems like they could tighten more. The instructions show a few inches of available tension when the chains are on plus I had to loop the bungee cord around another section of chain to get any tightness. It just does not seem like the proper fit and may cause issue when in use. Is there a smaller size or another tire chain that would better fit a 275/65R18 tire???

It does not look like the chains are too large for the tire. I recommend Rubber Tire Chain Adjusters par t# TCMA2 to tighten up the fit.

2007 Ford F-150

I'm satisfied with this product. I ordered these for use on my 2007 F-150 (oversized tires). I have used in these twice while up on forest service roads in winter. They grip very well and have held up to driving slowly on heavily snowed roads. I felt much safer on compacted snow near steep drop-offs.

Installation is fairly simple, although tensioning takes a minute. I supplemented these chains with bungie cords to get them nicely tensioned. Remember to check tension after they settle in. I had good results checking after only a few hundred yards.

I would not expect them to stand up to heavy duty use or combined snow and rocks. But these are not that kind of chain. Good for emergency use or light duty recreation.

Ford F-250 Super Duty

These look like good quality chains but sadly they did not fit my LT275/70R18 Ironman All-country AT tires, despite advertising that they fit that size. Worse, I had to pay return shipping because they were not “confirmed fit” for my F250, which was a nasty surprise.

by:

The link style grips better than a standard chain. Very nice to be able to install them without moving the truck. Less effort to install than standard chains. You will still need a five legged tensioner or whatever you prefer as on their own they won't stay tight enough. A good product, a good traction solution.

The delivery was on a timely basis to my home in British Columbia. I haven’t had a chance to use them yet but additional information from etrailer has already arrived about using tire chains. I really appreciate the follow up!

Have used the chains a fair amount over the year. They have performed well. only issue is the little orange loop rings broke, and the replacements are too small to pass the tightening chain. Would buy again!

They went on easy and fit well on the P275/65R18 tires. Bought them for traveling from PA to Idaho in winter. Fortunately we never needed to use them.

2015 Lincoln Navigator

Great chains, and the easiest to install that I have ever owned. Right after I bought them, I took a skiing trip to Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. We had a large snowfall on the second day, and I was able to chain the front tires of my 4x4 in the parking garage with no problems. We had over a foot of snow overnight. I was able to make it up to the resort from Mammoth Lakes, and even take Mammoth Mountain employees from Mammoth Lakes to the ski resort, even though the resort never was able to open due to the storm. I could not have made it without these chains.

by:

After reviewing tech info and reviews I purchased Titan Alloy Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link part TC2533 for the 2018 Ram 2500. These are regular duty and a good fit. These chains offer a lot more clearance for the P-Brake cable. They are a cleaver design, have great carrying case and are fairly quick to install. I have not purchased winter tires for this vehicle so the Ram need chains to pull a travel trailer up and down our snow-covered road.

by:

The chains aren't as heavy duty as the Pewag I had for a previous truck but I knew that when I ordered these. These are much easier to install and I bought 2 sets for the price 1 set of the Pewag's. Arrived 2 days after the order was placed.

by:

I put the chains on. Easy enough with instructions, took them off and have not had to actually use them but good to know they are there if needed. I have friend that has the same chains and we have used his!

by:
2015 Ram 1500

Ok 1st off I live in Central Texas, but we go up to Utah to go skiing throughout the winter months very often. The chains are very very easy to put on and take off I would say it only took me five minutes per side to put them on. I rolled in the driveway about two revelations after putting them on the tires then tighten them up even more. In a month I'll be going to go ski so I'll let you all know the performance of the snow chains. My dad is from Long Island & he said I got a good product & he couldn't believe the short time it took to put them on my truck & that I didn't have to lay on the ground at all to put them on. He did say that I would have more traction with the design of the chains other than the ones that he had up north with the chain only going in a straight line across the tire. We shall see in time.

by:

Arrived next day. Chains and cables are much heavier duty then I expected. Good carrying case. Hope I don’t need them this winter but confident they will do the job!!!

by:

Product was originally to be shipped in 5-7 business days, however it actually arrived in 3 with bo extra charge (it was ordered before last minute seasonal rush). It arrived in nice little carrying case which fits perfectly under trucks rear seats. Practiced installation in driveway, in nice weather, and product fit perfectly and was installed in way less than 5 minutes with minimum of kneeling. Removal and restorage took even less time. Awaiting real run/use in mountain passes before 5 star rating.

Nissan Titan

The TC2533 snow chains were the recommended size for my 275/65-18 tires, but when I tried to put them on the tensioning chain was too long. I contacted customer service immediately by email, and received a fast reply by telephone. After and exchange of information and a call back from customer service, I was told to wrap the tensioning chain around the yellow perimeter chain to take up some of the slack. Apparently, this came directly from Titan Chain, the manufacturer, as they provided a photo showing how to rig the tensioning chain, to take up the slack. I guess that solves the problem, and we shall see how well that works the first time I use them. Otherwise, the chains were easily installed, and other than the tensioning chain, they fit very well. eTrailer.com customer service was helpful, and quick to respond.

2018 Ford F-150

These chains are an excellent choice for the limited space the late model F150s give you in the front end. The low profile gives enough room to clear the wheel spindle. Takes me less than 5 minutes to place the chains on ( actually 2-3 minutes with some practice). I can't run my v-bar chains on the 2018 Fx4 F150 (front) like my previous 2004 Fx4 F150 --but these are a good alternative. Ford doesn't recommend chains on the front of their trucks --but if it would be necessary to chain all 4 wheels (BUYER'S DISCRETION-- will void warranty if you don't confirm clearance on your vehicle and chew up your spindle) - these are a great choice.

by:

Well constructed, but these won't stay straight on my tires. As soon as I turn they slide across the surface and end up slapping around the wheel wells. I tightened them as tight as they would go, within 1 link of max tight and even wrapped the chain through other parts of the yellow to try and get them tight but nothing worked. I have a 2021 F-150 platinum with the 20" wheels. Your experience might differ if using a higher profile tire but for me these don't work. Shame because I really wanted them to.

You mentioned that they are not a fit for you and I had a few questions that I wanted to ask. Can you confirm your tire size? Would you be able to send a picture with them installed?

Michael

3/2/2022

I have a 2021 F-150 platinum with 27560-20s. They fit when installing them, but as soon as I drive on them even at only 10 mph and take a turn, they end up sliding across the surface and quickly end up not straight and start rubbing on parts of the vehicle. I tried using them twice in the snow up in the Sierra Nevada mountains in December and the result was the same both times. I can mount them for a picture but since I am down below the snow line right now I do not want to drive around on them on bare roads to demonstrate how they slide around. But if it is helpful to show how I mounted them for reference I can send a picture.

Yes, if you could send a picture of the chain installed that would be great.

2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

I have a 2007 Avalanche, been told by some that I couldn't put chains on
this vehicle. Well I got a pair to try out.

Well, I put them on several times last year with no issues. They go on
fairly easily (10-15 minutes), and come off the same (10 minutes).

At times I have an icy hill to negotiate, and they worked great!

Very pleased...!!!

by:

I didn’t really get to try them! I put on the chains and wow were they easy to install! Helps to practice in the garage. I liked not having to crawl under my truck to install them.

However, after installation I proceeded to drive around to try them out. They came off! At first i though I had not got them tight enough! So when I went to put them back on I noticed I was missing the cable clasp on the end of the cable! So my thought is that it didn’t get crimped hard enough to stay. So when I was driving it pulled off the cable clasp!

On a side note when this happened it pulled the whole chain assembly away from the break line. Which is always a plus in my book!

If I get to try them again my guess is that they are great for around town and light interstate use!

You must tug on the chains after install to ensure they are tight. It is also recommended that you roll forward, then check the chains again, to make sure that everything is connected properly. Please note that the max speed is 30 mph. Please watch this install video starting at the 1:15 mark:

You will need to check with a Ram dealer to get their official stance on what to use with your tire size. If you can install them the Titan chains part # TC2533 are a great option that offer great clearances, traction, price, and install time for the 275/60-20. Only a Ram dealer can give you the go-ahead to install chains on a vehicle where the owners manual leaves things a bit ambiguous.
