Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Worked just fine, like everything else I have bought from you folks. Your product knowledge when needed is always helpful too.

by:

I have not yet installed them but have unpacked and took measurements. The only issue I have is the grease seal ID is .25 to large but that is most likely my fault during the order, I have the right size grease seals coming.
The hub is solid and the bearings fit real nice, no slop. This is for a boat trailer which goes back and forth to a very rural camp so it gets bounced around a lot, time will tell how these hold up. The original hub and bearings are ok and will be my field spare should I need it, slip one hub off and the other on, tighten and go. I like the stud with lug nut to hold the rim rather than original bolt into the hub, easier for tire mounting and I can put a locking lug nut on as well, personal preference.
This seemed to be the most cost effective means, all one package, just watch the size of the individual parts to make sure you get all the parts the correct size.
etrailer.com packed the parts well, nothing flopping around or damaged.

No complaints, now the dirty part, replacing the old with new.

Still on the trailer and working out well. I have put some hard miles on them and they seem to be holding up. Just shot some grease in them before the next trip.

by:

Just what I needed to replace the original worn out hubs on my small trailer. Parts arrived quickly in great condition and were a direct replacement. These hubs are actually better than the original hubs, they are galvanized not painted and will better protect from rusting, they also came with 1/2-20 threaded studs compared with threaded bolts on the original hubs. The idler hubs also came with all the required components to repair my small trailer.

by:

These are very well constructed and etrailer does a good job at putting together a kit that contains everything you need. You will have to keep though your old washer, nut, and pin.
Make sure you are ordering not only the right size of bearings, but also the grease seal. Some not-so-standard hubs have mismatched seal sizes. Measure your spindle and your seal seat. If your spindle is larger in diameter than the 1” (1.058”) this is the right kit for you. But also measure your seal seat. This kit shipped with a seal that fits a seat that’s 1.5” in diameter. If
Yours is closer to 1 ¼” you are going to need a different seal. etrailer quickly rushed out those for me!

by:

I received my hubs last week, shipping was nice and fast, and I installed them over the weekend. Kits were complete and everything fit perfectly. The only negative comment I would make is that the hubs do not look like they do in the video or picture. Instead of a "round" shape hub, they are a "star" shape hub, which made me think I had received the wrong ones. Once I pulled off my old ones and checked all the measurements I realized the difference between the two was purely cosmetic.

Very happy!

Bought new hubs/bearings for my Shorelandr boat trailer. Ricky in customer service was most patient helping me pick the proper parts. Got the hubs Monday am, installed them Monday afternoon, piece of cake!

by:

Order was reprocessed to be returned to sender because the wrong street was on the box. I had to go and make calls after calls to finally sto the return
When I called the guy on etrailers end was so rude on the phone telling me sure uts 3:30 in the afternoon I do t have time for this it's time for me to go hom and then hung up.

by:

Fit perfectly, only had to buy a set of grease seals as my Hobie trailer had smaller hubs (1 1/4 vs the 1 1/2") that would not be compatible with the grease seals provided

  • Looking for Replacement Hubs for Boat Trailer with 1.06 Inch Diameter Spindles
Since you successfully measured your spindles, it sounds like you might have a digital caliper lying around somewhere. Measure the hub bore (inside diameter of hub where grease cap sits). If this diameter is 1.98 inches, your existing bearings are # L44649, in which case the # 8-258-5UC1 hub you referenced would indeed be a correct replacement. Since the hubs are going on a boat trailer, I'd recommend you use galvanized hubs like part # 8-259-50UC1. The hubs are identical to the ones you...

  • Replacement Hub for Lippert 2,200 lb Trailer Axle
Thanks for the info you listed for your Lippert axle. Based on that I can tell you have a 2,200 lb trailer axle that has hubs that have a wheel bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inches so for a hub you'd want the Dexter part # 8-259-50UC1. Dexter hubs fit on Lippert axles and are widely considered to be the best made hubs. If you wanted just a bearing kit you would want the part # BK1-150. The hub I mentioned does come with bearings.

  • Replacement Axle for Smaller Boat Trailer with 1,800 lb Capacity
The CE Smith axle part # CE33201GA is the correct axle for your trailer based on all of the specs you mentioned. For a hub that can fit the smallest diameter wheel size you'd want the part # 8-259-50UC1 which can fit wheels down the 10 inch diameter. Then for a 10 inch wheel and tire you could use the part # AM3H490 and you'd be set. The closest leaf spring to what you mentioned is the part # SP-113275 which is for a 2,000 lb capacity axle and is 23-1/2 inches long. You might need to...

This is likely a casting number and will not give us what we need to find you correct replacement hubs, but it is not hard to determine correct new hubs. You will definitely want to replace both hubs. Things you need to match up are the hub bolt pattern, the axle weight rating and the bearing numbers. In order to spec the correct replacement wheel studs, I'd need the dimensions from one of your existing wheel studs, as shown in the provided diagram. I spoke with the nice folks at Triton Trailers to find the specifics about your existing hubs. For a replacement hub, I'd recommend part # 8-259-50UC1 which is compatible with a 2200 lb axle. The hub has a galvanized finish to resist corrosion, and includes the inner and outer L44649 wheel bearing, and has the L44610 races pre-installed....

  • Replacement Hub Recommendation for 2,200 lb Motorcycle Trailer Axle with 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern
Thanks for all of the info! From the information you gave me it sounds like you're needing the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,200-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 # 8-259-50UC1, but I do recommend pulling your hub and checking the part numbers on the bearings and seal or measuring the spindle where the bearings and seal ride to make sure it fits. Here are the bearings and seal used for this hub: Inner and outer bearings - L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) Grease seal - 10-9 (1.5" inner diameter...

Thanks for the information you gave. I recommend the Trailer Hub Assembly for 8" to 12" Wheels - 5 on 4-1/2 with GAL-DEX Coating # 8-259-50UC1. These Dexter assemblies have a galvanized coating to assist since your trailer is going to be used in water. You may also want to consider the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 1980A-SS w/ Auto Check - Stainless Steel (Pair) # BB1980A-SS which will protect your bearings while submerged in water or salt water. • Replacement Hub and Bearing Recommendations for Trailer Hub with L44649 Bearings
Since both of your bearings are # L44649 you would want a coated hub like the part # 8-259-50UC1 since this is for a boat trailer. This hub has a Gal-Dex coating to fight corrosion. This hub has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. If instead you have 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you would want the part # 8-91-05UC1-EZ. Or for just the bearings you would want the part # L44649 that I mentioned. Or for a bearing kit with new seals and races you would want part # BK1-150. The included seal is a...

If you can tell me the weight capacity of your axle and/or the bearing sizes for your hub I can recommend the correct service kit.
