Manual-Adjust Brake

With repeated use of this brake assembly, the brake shoes may move out of alignment, causing less efficient braking performance. To keep the brake shoes aligned and the brake assembly performing correctly, you should perform routine maintenance.

This brake assembly should be adjusted after installation and then as needed for the life of the brake. To adjust the brake, use a brake adjustment screw tool (sold separately) to turn the adjustment gear on the inside of the assembly. Continue to turn the gear until the drum surrounding the brake catches on the brake pads enough so that the hub can no longer be turned easily by hand. Then reverse the gear by about 10 clicks. A properly adjusted brake should drag slightly on the brake drum.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This brake assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This brake assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This brake has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on this brake assembly is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

thank you mr. George for following up the brake assembly that I purchased look like it was good quality pretty simple straightforward to install but unfortunately it was not the type that I needed for my trailer so I had to return it Im looking at your future business again once I get some money established thank you very much and have a good day

Very nice setup for the cost, no doubt. My only complaint is that I was doing a 4 wheel brake conversion, as in adding brakes to one axle, and the nuts and washers that hold the backing plates on, were not included. This created a major headache, since I was doing the job by myself. Had to disconnect trailer from truck, lock up the shop, and drive around looking for 8 7/16" fine thread nuts, which wasn't as easy as it sounds....For the negligible price of them, they should be included for not only the people doing a brake addition, but for anyone doing a brake replacement as well.

That aside, install was smooth as silk...and trailer stops much quicker and easier with 4 wheel brakes...especially with a heavyweight old Chevelle on it...I believe I will swap out the original backing plates from the original braking axle, just for piece of mind. Thanks for the quick shipping!

Every thing loos good and cam quick thank you

I changed from hydraulic surge to electric, so I needed a new couple. The install was simple, and towing is much more solid by getting rid of the sloppy slide action coupler with the surge brakes.

The conversion from hydraulic to electric is something I should have done when I first bought the trailer. The parts are working great! I want to say things are working better now than when the trailer was new. It pulls easier, sways less, and stops with confidence.

by:

These brake assemblies shipped very fast (free shipping), they were packaged/protected very well, and they seem to be very high quality. Very good price and helpful sales people. No regrets, would definitely purchase again.

Everything is working very well, thanks!

Good products at great prices. Got a used trailer and rebuilt it for $1800 which includes the cost of the trailer.

thank u etrailer for sending me 2 extra nuts & 2 extra mounting studs. the best way to remove a bad stud is to drill it out. As u know im the one who had a mounting nut go on & turn both directions after it was put on. i could not back the nut off to replace the stud. i took a drill bit a little smaller than the stud & drilled the head of the mounting stud off. i drilled pased the 4 hole plate, knocked the nut off the back side, & taped the remainder of the stud out of the hole. No damage was done to the plate. Taking a grinder to it would have been a bad deal. The only thing i wished was in my hardware would have been a simple drawing of which the right & left sides of the trailer were. i had to go back & spend most of the day & swap both sides of the trailer after i done a complete job of putting on the brake assemblies. I did averything i thought to do to get it right the first time. I got it wrong! A simple way would be just to remind everyone that the longer brake pad goes to the rear of the trailer. I now have everything back together & everything works fine. What a nightmare, but now im in good shape. I would like to have better tires thou. Stronger & taller tires. I have looked at the contender st225/75r15 with the white rims. Soon i hope to chat with you on these tires. Again thanks for sending me the extra hardware. I will most diffinitly pass your website out to ones that i know. randy , fully custom built rv out of a v noise 16 foot cargo trailer, spent one year to build....

I needed to retrofit my two axle trailer to get it state inspected. I bought everything I needed from etrailer. I love one stop shopping! I was very pleased with the delivery time and the high quality of parts I bought. The brakes work like a charm. The only thing that I would suggest for the company is to recommend break away automatic braking device when selling these brakes. It was required by law in Pa and I had to buy an automatic brake locally.
I would do business with these folks any day. I highly recommend.

by:

Product was exactly what they advertise and deliver. Easy to install, excellent craftsmanship, perfect fit, instructions and video very easy to follow. etrailer will always get my business and I'll recommend them to everyone.

All are working just fine after more than a year. Glad we had the brakes on our Aliner popup through the Rocky Mountains during our trip to the West Coast the summer of 2016.

by:

Purchased new backing plates assemblies and drum assemblies 2 to replace worn out parts and 2 for installation on an axle that didn't have brakes on at all. Parts fit great and have been working flawlessly for a year. Great parts, prices, and shipping time.

Thanks,

First I will start of I am probably offer kill in my research for things I will buy. I felt very comfortable moving forward with the purchase of these products. The price was in beatable, I looked. I was weary that the wiring would be cut due to shippinglike so many others said, but glad to say I got lucky or e trailer in my opinion looked at reviews and made corrections in packaging. I have never been let down from e trailer over the past few years I have done business with them. The products installed perfectly. I took the fifth wheel trailer out for a spin after installing the new hardware and it performed flawlessly. I look forward to years of these products serving my family. Last I will mention the great features most products have with an attached video demonstrating how to install e trailers products. Thanks again e trailer!

  • Brake Assemblies For 19 Ft Aerolight Cub Travel Trailer
The only way to know which brake assemblies will work for your trailer would require you to remove your trailers hubs and measure the drum surface. If you find that the mounting bolt pattern is a 4 bolt and you need a 10 x 2-1/4 inch brake assembly, then part # AKEBRK-35L may work well for you.The right hand version of this is part # AKEBRK-35R.

We do offer both disc brake kits and individual components. The most popular configurations are used for the kits but if you need to order items individually we can help you with that too. Adding brakes to a trailer that does not already have them requires a number of components that are detailed in the linked article. This article is a good place to start. I also included an article about adding hydraulic drum brakes to a trailer, since this is a much lower cost option. Electric drum brakes...

Yes. The KA90831 part number you referenced are a 10" x 2-1/4" drum so the # AKEBRK-35R and # AKEBRK-35L would work well for you. If you wanted to upgrade to a self adjusting brake assembly you could use part # AKEBRK-35-SA. These brakes do not come with mounting hardware included but you can pick that up with part # BRKH10B.

I propose a different approach by using a Timbren axle-less system # ASR2KHDS01. This system will provide the "axle" as well as the suspension in one unit plus the suspension part will not wear out nearly as quickly as traditional leaf springs because the rubber won't corrode. They are also set up for electric brakes. The...

The only 3500 lb brake assemblies we offer are compatible with a standard 4-bolt backing plate, which leaves you with a few options. If you can find somebody local that's familiar with trailer axle work, you can have the existing brake assembly mounting flange removed and a new one welded in place. A 3500 lb axle typically has a 2-3/8 inch diameter axle tube. If that's the case with your axle, you'd want to use # 4-35. The mounting flanges need to be welded in place so they're perfectly...
