Carpet Diagram

Note: This 11" wide carpeting is designed for use on 2x4 and 2x6 boards. If you use this on your 2x6 bunk boards, some of the board will be exposed on the underside.

Protect Your Boat's Hull

Over time, the carpeting that covers your bunk boards can wear down or even tear apart. This can lead to scratches on your boat's hull. Replacing the carpeting periodically ensures protection for your boat, and it will also prevent your wooden bunk boards from rotting.

Replacing Bunk Board Carpeting

To get started, remove the old carpet from your bunk boards, doing your best to remove any old staples and bolts from the boards as well.

Cut the carpet to the appropriate length and lay it down so that the backing is facing up, then place your bunk board on top. Make sure that there's enough extra carpet to wrap around the sides and ends of the board. Then wrap the carpet around one side and staple it in place.

Once you're done with the first side, tightly pull the carpet around the opposite edge of the board and secure it with staples. Loose carpet can easily snag or tear, leaving the wooden board vulnerable to moisture or damage.

Once both sides are securely attached, tuck any extra carpet at the ends in tightly, like you're wrapping a package, and secure the ends to the board with staples.

I am building two side boards for my bass boat trailer. They attach to the inside of the metal fenders which are tandem axle tear drop configuration. I ordered two rolls of the bunk board carpet shown above and they are exactly what I needed to complete the job. eTrailer.com customer service was excellent and I received the carpet in a few days.

I completed the side boards cutting out 1/2 inch plywood and using galvanized staples and latex carpet glue, I have both completed. I am having a new pair of steel fenders made up and am still waiting for them. (Not from eTrailer.com). I'll try to send some pics when I get everything installed on the trailer.

Thanks.

The carpet rolls have been working fine. I continued with my trailer restore project and built new bunk boards - 4 each 11 - 12 feet long and carpeted. I also rebuilt the suspension on my trailer - new bolts nuts bushings shackle plates, etc. My trailer and boat loaded up no longer rattle down the freeways. I attached some pics to your response email.

The bunk board carpets continue to work very well for me. As recommended in Q&A, I wrapped the carpet around the board and stapled to the sides and back of the board. No scratching and the carpet stays in place perfectly.

Bunk carpet has held up well, no signs of wear.

by:

Seems good. Only time will tell how well it lasts.

by:

I switched from rollers to bunks for my 17' sailboat. The bunks were 8' pressure treated 2x6s, and each roll covered one bunk with about a foot-and-a-half left over. I've found uses for the remnants since the material is non-abrasive, but very tough.

I used a staple gun to put them on, with a pair of staples every 3". Test it to see what length staples to use. I used the long ones.

After a year, everything is holding up great. I only launch once a year, since I keep the boat on a mooring, but the trailer sits all summer exposed to the sun and rain. Theres been no sign of deterioration.

by:

CE Smith Deluxe Grade Carpeting is rated as the top boat bunk carpet on the market.

by:

Used the marine carpet to make new runners for my boat trailer. Easily fitted to a new treated 8 ft. 2x4 with stainless steel staples.

by:

About a year ago I purchased rolls of CE Smith Marine carpet to rebuild the support bunks on my sailboat trailer. This type of carpet is an excellent product. It fit well on six inch wide pressure treated lumber. It was easy to install with contact cement and stainless steel staples. Looked great, and provided an excellent durable surface. But the best aspect of this carpet was that it was designed for marine application and drained extremely fast. This is an excellent product and the service from etrailer was outstanding. If you are going to rebuild the bunks on your trailer, this is the product to use. You will not be disappointed.

by:

Easy to install-haven't used long enough to review wearability.

by:

Carpet is great quality and works perfe ct!

  • Can CE Smith Bolster Brackets # CE26265G40 be Used on HydroLift for Pontoon Boats
Yes, if you installed wood bunks on the CE Smith Narrow V-Wing Bolster Bracket # CE26265G40 that you referenced and then installed them on your hydro lift you'd have enough clearance. These brackets were designed for mounting to pontoon boat trailers and lifts so it would work well once installed. If you are looking for carpet for the bunks the part # CE11330 would then work really well too. It's 12 feet long by 11 inches wide.

The Yates Keel Pad # YR1203SB is designed to fit on 3" wide frames and crossmembers. To mount them on bunk boards you would have to notch the 2"x4" for them to even fit. Also the pad is not designed to hold the boat like you get with Bunk Board Carpeting # CE11330. I can certainly understand not wanting to have to connect 2 five-foot carpeted bunk rails like # CE27820 to get the 10 foot bunks you need. We don't offer them in the 10' length because the shipping costs would be more expensive than the bunks themselves. If you're a DIY kind of person, you can pretty easily make your own bunk boards using 2" x 4" or 2" x 6" pressure-treated lumber and CE Smith Marine Grade Carpeting like # CE11350.
