Worked very well. On a difficulty scale of 1-10, with 10 being the hardest, this was a 3.

by:

Did not fit axle spindle so I'll be returning the 2 nuts. Had to get correct size locally so I could finish assembly.

by:

Thanks for getting it shipped so quickly - well done!

After being in storage, in a field, for more than 2 years, Water had contaminated the original hub, pitting the bearings and races and they had not been serviced since, at least 1999. I polished up the EZ lube spindles, flushed out the old grease and I was ready. Everything fit perfectly. It was aa perfect match. Used new Nuts and Washers. re-installed the Wheels and Tires, Torqued to 90-10lb. The old 6 x 4 Wells Cargo trailer is once again Ready for the coming rendezvous season.

The products appear to be ok. I would give the products 4 out of 5 stars. The 2 star rating is because of the poor shipping.

I ordered 2 leaf springs, 2 spindle nuts and 3 spindle washers. The first box showed up quickly (3 days) but it only contained 1 leaf spring. I called etrailer and they shipped a second leaf spring. After 5 days the package was at my local UPS distribution center but the tracking info said the package had been damaged and ups was contacting the shipper. I found out from ups that the spring had come out of the box, and they did not know who to deliver the spring to. I called etrailer again to discuss the damaged package but etrailer would not ship another spring until the damaged box/loose spring mystery was solved. Another week passed. I finally got the second leaf spring today, but it took about 3 weeks from the initial order date.

quick service good prices

Very quick shipping and great communica tion!

Brake Drum/Hub unit and associated parts arrived quickly and in great shape! Waiting for warmer weather to install. Have used e-trailer parts before to rebuild all brakes, hubs and bearings on camping trailer last summer but over-torqued one bearing set and had an outer bearing failure - almost lost the wheel! This unit will replace that damaged hub which was gouged by riding on the washer and spindle nut causing grease cap not to seal and leak grease. These parts are first class and fit and install perfectly!

Thanks for the reply and follow up. I have included a link to all our spare tire carriers, I am not sure how you car hauling trailer is configured or what you mounting options are, but here is what we currently offer.

The part is what I ordered. But what is almost as important is the inside sales person who helped me with my order. MarthaO was so much better than average and an example for every other inside sales person to emulate. Thank you Martha!

by:

First off I purchased 1" castle nuts, tang type spindle washers and 2 wheel hubs for a 3500 lb tandem trailer. I wish I had pictures during the assembly but I don't, however these parts all assembled perfectly. The hubs were pre-greased, so all I did was use brake cleaner on the wheel spindles to clean up, the hubs slid on with no problem, the tang washers fit perfectly and the castle nut threaded on with ease, the hub included new lug nuts which made the whole repair a breeze! Very pleased with the purchase and ease of assembly, I was going to piece out the bearings and races but for the price of a complete hub it made more sense to buy it already greased and assembled. E trailers videos and instructions are great to consider before attempting to install the parts.

by:

repeat customer. Same great service as in the past. easy to find items, reasonable shipping. Highly recommend etrailer for trailer parts needs.

  • Is a Spindle Washer Needed Between the Spindle Nut and Outer Bearing on Dexter 5 on 4-1/2 Hubs
Yes, there should be a washer of some type between the spindle nut and the bearing on your trailer. The washer protects the back side of the bearing from the edges and points on the back side of the spindle nut. There are several types of spindle washers available depending on the spindle configuration on your trailer. The Washer For 1 inch Spindle, # SW1000, is typically used on spindles that have a castle nut, like # 165686, and a cotter pin, # 165649. A D washer, # 5-23, would be...

  • Where Does Flat Washer Go
I was unable to find an order number so I'm not certain exactly what you are referring to, but in general a flat washer such as Washer For 1" Spindle # SW1000 will go between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on, which essentially works to protect the bearing. These washers are used on spindles with a spindle nut such as Spindle Nut 1" # 165686 and Cotter Pin # 165649.

  • Replacement Galvanized Trailer Idler Hub For a Continental EC39 Boat Trailer
Your Continental EC-39 Boat Trailer will need a Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-2-G-2K. I was able to confirm with Continental that you have a spindle that uses 1.063" bearings on a straight spindle with a 1.249" ID grease seal. You will need to replace the grease seal that comes with the kit with a Double Lip Grease Seal # 34823. • Why Does One Brake Assembly Drag more than the Other After Brake Install
If you installed self-adjusting brake assemblies then you would be fine as the brake tension will adjust itself. To see how to set the proper drag on trailer brakes check out the video I attached. Fast forward to the 4:30 mark. I recommend measuring the spindle where the bearings and grease seal ride using a digital caliper like the # PTW80157 to be sure. See the diagram below which shows where to measure. • Spindle Nut Recommendation for a 3,500 lb Axle
Since you have a 3,500 lb axle most likely the diameter of the threaded portion of the spindle is 1 inch. You will need to verify that. And since the spindle has a hole in it for a cotter pin you would need a castle nut. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. The Spindle Nut Kit # RG05-100 that you referenced is for a different style spindle so I would not recommend it for you.

The majority of most axles use either a retaining nut or cotter pin with a "D" washer and castle nut to secure the hub onto the spindle. I believe you are referring to a castle nut like the TruRyde 1" # 165686, which is what secures the hub to a trailer spindle. As long as the spindles on your trailer use a 1" diameter castle nut, this will work perfectly as a replacement.

  • How Tight Does the Castle Nut on a Trailer Spindle Need To Be
According to our installers you will tighten the trailer spindle nut until it stops by itself. In other words do not torque it down as hard as you can. It just has to be tight. A little play is to be expected. You do not want to torque it down too tight, because that makes the bearings too tight and then that generates heat and your bearings come apart. You might want to try tightening it a few times to get a feel for where it seems like the spindle nut naturally stops. Once it is fairly...
