Today, in our 2008 Ford van, we're going to be taking a look at and installing a Tekonsha Voyager trailer brake controller, part number 39510. To help with our install, we're going to be using a Tekonsha plug-in wiring adapter for electric brake controllers for Ford, part number 3035-P. One feature of this brake controller is that it activates the trailer brakes in a proportion to your vehicle's braking action, automatically adjusting trailer brakes based on the acceleration of the tow vehicle. This is immediate and there is no pause, no time delay. This controller is designed to be mounted in multiple positions up to 90 degrees. It's designed to be used with a trailer with brakes from one to four axles. There's a manual override, so if you had an emergency situation you could apply the brakes on the trailer independently. more

This controller has an automatic leveling device in it, so it'll pick up whatever way you have it mounted. There's 5 storable settings so you can set it to a variety of different trailers and braking combinations. more

This is the Takonsha Plug-in Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers. We'll go ahead and accelerate for a little bit, and then hit the brakes. We can see how it'll scale up on our display, showing how much power we're using. The controller actually controls the brakes on your trailer. When you're going down the road and you hit your brakes, this will in turn send power going out to your trailer. more

Today on our 2009 Ford F150, we'll be taking a look at and installing our Hopkins InSIGHT Flex-Mount Trailer Brake Controller, part number HM47297. We'll also be using an adapter, part number HM47845. This is what our brake controller looks like once installed. We've got our monitor here. The little red light there, that means I've got it plugged into a trailer, so you know you have a good connection if that little red light's on. Now, on my brake pull switch, the emergency pull switch, I'm going to pull that down and you can see it's sending voltage to our trailer. We have the F switch on the left side of that. more

Well also use part number18140 which is going to be the short no draw mount braking kit. This braking control system is for braking parts 246 and e-trailer brake applications. This brake control is inertia activated and when the vehicle is not moving, the brake control will not automatically apply the trailer brakes. more

Today on our 2008 Ford F-250, we're going to be taking a look and and installing the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller, part number TK90160. With assistance from the universal installation kit, part number ETBC7. First thing we're going to talk about is going to be that boost button here located at the top. By pressing that you'll be able to choose between boost 1, boost 2 and boost 3. Just a straight up B right there is just going to be your regular boost off. On the side is going to be your adjustment for your power wheel. Once you have your trailer connected, as you can see right now it's going to be not connected by the NC there. more

Today on our 2007 Ford Van, we're going to install the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part number 90885. Now to help us with our install, we'll be needing a couple of parts. We'll be needing a bracket to mount our 7 pull connector to the back of the van. That'll be part number 18136, the No Drill Mountain Bracket from Towready, and part number ETBC7. This is a universal installation kit for trailer brake controllers that comes with a 7-way RV connector. This is what the brake controller looks like when it's installed in our van. more

Today on our 2011 Ford F150 we're going to review and install the Tekonsha Voyager Break Controller, part number 39510. We'll install this in conjunction with the Tekonsha direct fit wiring harness, part number 22292. Now here's what are break controller will look like once it's installed. Here on the drivers side is the hand dial that will need to be rotated so the mark and slot are straight up and down setting the level portion of the potentiometer inside the break controller. The dial on the passenger side will allow us to adjust the gain or maximum output going to the trailer breaking. When our trailers plugged in the light here at the top will go green to indicate that we have our connection. When it's disconnected the light will out indicating no trailer connection. more

Today on a 2011 Ford F150, we're going to review an install. The Tekonsha Power Trek Electric Brake Controller, part number 39523. We'll be doing this in conjunction with the Tekonsha Direct Fit Wiring Harness, part number 22292. Here, on the right side of the brake controller, is the film wheel that allows you to change the gain. The gain is the maximum tensity in which power will be applied to our trailer braking. On the left side is the hand sweep, or thumb wheel, that allows you to manually apply trailer braking to the rear of the vehicle. Now, with our trailer not connected, you can see the indicator light is off. Once we connect our trailer, you can see the green light comes on, indicating that the trailer has been connected. more

We've got this single light on, which indicates that we have power going to the brake controller. Two dots here at the bottom of our display screen indicates not only that we have power, but the boost function is on. We'll be doing this in conjunction with the Hopkins direct fit wiring harness adapter, part number HM47845. Here's what our inside brake controller is going to look like once installed. We've got our display screen here, mounted at the top of the dash, and our manual brake controller, mounted here, close to the steering wheel. Because of the flexibility of these 2, they can really be mounted anywhere as long as the driver can see and use the manual brake controller. Another really nice feature about the inside brake controller is the multiple functions that it has. We can set it up for 7 separate trailers or boost functions. more

Today on this 2004 Ford F-250 Super Duty we're going to show you the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, part number 90195. To help us with our install of our brake controller we're also going to use a Tekonsha Plugin Wiring Adapter, part number 3035-P, this part is designed to work with the factory tow package port underneath the dash of your vehicle. This is what the P3 Brake Controller looks like once installed in typical application in our truck. With this part number you get obviously the brake controller and the bracket to hold it up into place. This style brake controller is a proportional brake controller which means it automatically adjusts the trailer's braking based on deceleration of the tow vehicle and total amount of power is set by the user. We have ours relatively flat, but this also has automatic leveling built inside of it and in fact you can mount it in a vertical position, or flat, or anywhere in between. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2014 Ford F-150 39510

Today on our 2014 Ford F150, we'll be installing the Takonsha Voyager Brake Control for 1 to 4 axles, part number 39510. We'll also be using the etrailer ETBC7 installation kit for brake controllers. With our power hooked up to our battery and our trailer hooked up to our brake controller, you can see we have a green light there. That means we have power going to our brake controller. This is our pendulum adjustment so when you level out your brake controller, you'll adjust that, and your power adjustment is on the side here. When you use your manual override, it will go from green to red so you know it's working. As you see, our truck is equipped for a 4-flat here on the back of the vehicle, and it is in a bracket. We're just going to go ahead slide that out of the bracket and tuck it behind our hitch, that way we can start to install our 7-way plug. more

Today on 2011 Ford Edge, we're going to be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 trailer brake controller. This controls 1 to 4 axles, and it is proportional. The part number on it is 90885. To do our install, we're also going to be using part number ETBC7. This is going to be the wiring for our brake controller, and part number 18136, which is going to be a no drill bracket mount. Here's what your brake controller is going to look like once you've got it installed onto your Edge. What these allow us to do is fine tune the amount of braking force that our trailer is going to exert as opposed to some of the older styles that used pressure or friction when you stopped or we're trying to back up to apply the brakes. This gives us a manual override here to where we can apply our trailer brakes before we've even hit our vehicle brakes, and as you'll see her, it's fully adjustable up and down to give us the appropriate braking force. more

Today on our 2003 Ford F350 Super Duty we'll be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller, part number 90885. We'll be doing this in conjunction with the Tekona Plug-N-Play wiring adapter for the brake controller, part number 3035-P. Let's go ahead and connect the trailer braking. Once connected our display will read or show a C that indicates our trailer wiring is connected. Then on the driver side of the brake controller is our gain, which will allow us to increase or decrease the output and power going to our trailer braking. On the passenger side of the brake controller at the top is our boost mode button. We have three different boost modes that can be adjusted as necessary depending on the trailer's size and weight. more

In conjunction with the Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller, we're also going to be installing the Tekonsha plug-in wiring adapter for electric brake controllers for Ford, Lincolns, and Mercury's, part number 3035-P. Now we have our brake controller installed. Now we'll take the manual override button, which is this lower lever here. We pull it over, and notice that it shows no trailer connected. It's because we don't currently have a trailer connected to our 7-way plug. Now, with our trailer plugged in, you'll notice that we have an actual numerical read-out right now. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Ford F-350 Cab and Chassis

Today on our 2008 Ford F350 Chassis Cab, we'll be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part number 90885, along with part number 3034-P, along with our Hopkins adapter 4 pole to 7 and 4 pole, part number 37185 mounted to the universal mounting bracket, part number 18136. Our first step, we'll be starting at the rear of the vehicle, attaching the mounting bracket. We'll be doing a custom install on this particular application. So we'll go ahead and take the mounting bracket and set it on the vehicle. Then we can take a paint marker, mark out the area around where we can attach the bracket to the vehicle and at this particular location it is the cross member. Then we'll go ahead and remove the bracket and pre-drill the holes into the cross member. Next, I'll go ahead and take a pair of vice grips and secure the bracket over the holes that we just drilled out. Now we'll be able to go ahead and pre-drill all the way through the bracket. Now that we finished our pre-drilled hole on the driver's side, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger's side. more

Today on our 1998 Ford Van, we're going to be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller, part number 90885. In conjunction with the brake controller, we're also going to be using the Tekonsha Plug-in Wiring Adapter for electric brake controllers for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles, part number 3035-P. In conjunction with this installation, we'll also be using a couple of other parts, one of them is an adapter 4-Pole to a 7-Pole and 4-Pole from Hopkins, part number 37185. As well as a 6 and 7-way trailer connector mounting box for round and square tube trailer hitches from Draw-Tite, part number 18159. Now due to the size of the hitch that's on this vehicle and not a good area to mount the 7 and 4-Pole, we're going to go ahead and use the 6 and 7-way trailer connector mounting box. To do this though, you'll need to get some different screws because the 7 and 4-Pole plug that we're using is a little bit wider than what the box was intended for. It comes with some self-tappers but we want to add and we ended up having to use just some screws and nuts in them to tighten it down. more

Today on this 2003 Ford F-650 we're going to install Brake Controller, part number 90885. Now to help us install these parts we're going to be using the components from a ATD 7 kit. However there's already been a seven pole connector already installed on the vehicle so we'll go ahead and use it. We'll start off by taking our gray cable and getting down to the bare wires and then we'll go ahead and install some butt connectors on them. Next we'll connect these two wires to the wires we need coming out of the seven pole connector. In this case the color code will be black to black and white to blue. Now our white wire will eventually go back to blue on our brake controller. After we have our connections made we'll continue running our gray cable up towards the front of the truck and up by the power distribution box on the driver's side. more

Today on our 2010 Ford Explorer will be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, Part #90885 in conjunction with the etrailer Universal Installation Kit for Brake Controllers, Part #ETBC7. To start, we'll first go ahead and assemble the 7-pole adapter bracket. With the hardware provided we'll use it to attach the bracket to the 7-pole adapter. We'll go ahead and take the bracket, feed it over the wires and up to the back of the mounting surface for the 7-pole adapter. Then we'll take the screws, feed them through the front side of the 7-pole and secure it with the nuts on the backside. Once we have all four in place, we'll go ahead and tighten them down. I'm gonna go ahead and take some black electrical tape and wrap up 8 to 10 inches of our wire. This will assist in bundling our wires together and help protect it from the elements. Next we'll go ahead and attach the Draw-Tite No-Drill Mounting Bracket, Part #18136. Using the fasteners provided with the bracket we can secure it to the 7-pole bracket. Now we'll go ahead and take the purple wire, which in this application will not be used, and cut it off. more

Today on our 2002 Ford E350 Super Duty Van we're going to be installing the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller, part number 39510. We'll also be installing the Tekonsha adapter plug for Ford vehicles, part number 3035-P. Here's the bracket and here's our Voyager brake controller. We're going to go ahead and kind of just test fit it up here underneath the dash to find a good place. Right here there's a little metal bracket that comes down that we'll be able to screw our bracket into. We'll just line it up and see if that's going to work. more

Today on our 2008 Ford Ranger we're going to be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part number 90195 along with the etrailer brake controller install kit part number ETBC7. To start we'll first go ahead and assemble the 7-pole adapter bracket. With the hardware provided we'll use it to attach the bracket to the 7-pole adapter. We'll go ahead and take the bracket and feed it over the wires and up to the back of the mounting surface for the 7-pole adapter. Then we'll take the screws, feed them through the front side of the 7-pole and secure it with the nuts on the backside. Once we have all four in place we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Now once we have the bracket mounted to help secure our wires and clean up our install look we're going to go ahead and tape it up here until we get to the 4-pole connector. Using some black electrical tape, it'll help bundle it up and protect our wires. more

Today on our 2001 Ford F350 Super Duty SuperCab we're going to be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake controller, part number 90195. In addition to the brake controller we're also going to be installing the Tekonsha plug-in wiring adapter for electric brake controllers for Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury, part number 3035-P. Let's go over what the different buttons on our brake controller do. The underside here, this lever, the manual override button which you can see here currently we have no trailer connected so that's what it shows on the screen. These two buttons here are what control the amount of power, the maximum amount of power, that can go back to your trailer brakes. That's the up and down area which you adjust the power up or down. This button over here is the boost feature button or how aggressively the brakes will be applied to your trailer. more

First thing we want to work with, is the cord that comes with the brake controller. This typically gets hooked up to the truck. However, in this case, the truck has a two package and adapter cord, so we can just splice these two together. This is a Ford factory adapter cord, right here. more

Today in our 2006 Ford Expedition, we'll be installing the Contra 00:02:35 Prodigy P2 Break Controller, part number 90885 with a direct fit wiring harness or pigtail 00:00:11, part number 3035-P. First we'll go ahead and locate the manufacturer's break controller tow hood. Here, next to the diagnostic link for the vehicle's computer, we'll find the gray, five pin plug which will be the manufacturer's tow port. Next, we'll take the break controller bracket and find a suitable mounting location. Then using the hardware provided with the install kit we'll go ahead and secure the bracket in place. Next, we'll take the wiring harness, plug into the gray connector on one side and route the other up through our break control bracket or pocket. Once we have our harness in position, we can then go ahead and take the wiring harness and plug it into the back of the break controller. Once we have it plugged into the break controller, we can then go ahead and put our break controller into the pocket and lock it down. more

Today in our 1999 Ford F350 Super Duty, well be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller with the direct fit wiring harness part number 90195 in conjunction with 3035-P. To begin our install, well first need to locate the manufacturers tow port. This will be underneath the kick panel below the steering wheel. Well go ahead and remove the four fasteners that secure the kick panel and then pull it down and out of the way. To remove the kick panel or knee bolster here, well just rotate the screw heads so that they pop out. . more

We're going to start off with that part number first. We'll take the 4 pole to 7 pole adapter, and we're going to attach it to the gray cable that comes with the kit. We're going to connect the black and white wires to our blue and black wires on the adapter. more

Today on our 2014 Ford Explorer, were going to be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller, part number 90885. In addition to our brake controller, were also going to need to install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers, part number ETBC7, as well as the no-drill mounting bracket, part number 18140. Without a trailer connector when you slide the manual override here, youll get a NC showing that theres no trailer connected. Now, well go ahead and plug a trailer in. With our trailer plugged in, youll see now a C appears on the screen showing that you are connected.Now when you do the manual override, it shows you what the power output going to the electric trailer brakes is. Now, this roller knob over here on the left-hand side is what adjusts the maximum output or the output that can go back to your trailer brakes. more

Today on our 2004 Ford F250, we'll be installing the Curt Venture trailer brake controller for 1 to 3 axles and the time delay, part #C51110. We'll also be using the Curt custom wiring adapter for trailer brake controllers with the dual plug in, part #C%1322. Now we'll go ahead and go through a few of the functions of the Curt Venture trailer brake controller has. There is a manual override which is a slide on the front of the brake controller and a knob on the back left side is your sync adjustment which allows you to adjust how aggresively the brakes come on when activated. As you can see here when you slide the manual override and you adjust the sync setting it goes from 1 to 8 bars. Now we'll go ahead and begin our install. To begin with, we need to go ahead and remove this panel right here underneath the steering wheel. To remove the panel here, we'll turn the four mounting locations about 90 degrees and they will pop out. more

Today on our 2005 Ford F150, we'll be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller. Part number 90195 with wiring harness, part number 3035-P. First we'll point out the connection to the factory wiring harness. Now that we've located our plug, there's normally a grey plastic cap that covers it - in this instance there's not. We'll take our new wiring harness from our new brake controller, plug it into the factory connector. With the wiring in place, we'll mount out bracket, in this case we're mounting it about halfway up the kick panel under the steering wheel. To mount it we use the two self-tapping screws that came included with out kit. Now that our bracket's in place we'll take the mounting clip for our brake controller and we'll screw that in using the included machine screws that came with the kit. Now that the brackets mounted, take our wiring harness, plug it the back of the brake controller and set our brake controller up in place. more

All right today on this 2000 Ford van were going to install part number HM47297 just a Hopkins Insight Flex Mount trailer brake controller. Okay first thing we need to do is go ahead and find the location of the brake controller itself. In this case were going to be underneath the dash, on the drivers side, right behind the brake pedal.To mount our brake controller we need to make sure that the sticker side is towards the inside wall and that the cables are pointing towards the front of the vehicle. That ensures that the brake controller is positioned in the correct way.To install this were going to loosen up the wire harness thats behind the brake pedal. Well pull it up and out of the way and then itd be a good idea to do a test-fit to show where our brake controller will fit.All right, once we know where its going to go, well go ahead and clean up the sheet metal behind it. Well use adhesive to help hold it in place. Now well set our brake controller to the side and then were going to use an adaptor cord to plug into the vans tail package port. more

Today on our 1997 Ford F250, we're going to be installing the Tekonsha prodigy P2 brake controller, part# 90885. In conjunction with our brake controller, we'll be installing a draw tight wiring kit for electric brake controllers, part# 5505. Now we're going to start here by trimming off some of the protective casing that is on our duplex wire. We need to expose enough wire of the white and the black. We'll then go ahead and take our wire strippers, strip back a little bit of wire in each. Now that we have our duplex wire ready, let's go ahead an show you what we'll be connecting to. Now you can see here on this vehicle, there is already a 7-way kit installed, so we already have our blue wire and our black wire coming off the backside. So our blue wire will run up for our brake control signal, and this black wire here is for a 12-volt hot that is part of the 7-way. more

Today on our 2008 Ford Expedition we will be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake controller. Part number 90195. The first step to installing our brake controller is to remove this panel. To do so there are 3 push fasteners that hold this in place and 3 screws down here at the bottom. With those screws removed and set to the side, gently pull back on the panel, and remove it from the vehicle. For the installation it's not necessary to remove the panel. I went ahead and did just to make sure I didn't damage any other interior parts, because it can be kind of tricky to get a screw driver or your drill in there to install the bracket. more
