Best Hitch Recommendation for a 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

I am confused as to which after market hitch to buy for my new 2015 Outback. I want a strong hitch that wont cost me a fortune to mount and that mounts close to the cars under body. I dont want to sacrifice clearance or bump my shins into a hitch that protrudes from the rear bumper. What do you suggest?

Since you want a strong hitch at a decent price I would recommend the Draw-Tite part # 75673. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch opening that would have more capacity and accessory options than a hitch with a 1-1/4 inch opening. For more info on hitch classifications check out the link I attached.

The hitch opening will be right underneath the bottom of the bumper which really wouldn't affect ground clearance by much. It also will be recessed up under the bumper so it would never cause you to bang your shins. That only becomes a problem when people leave a ball mount in the hitch opening. If there wasn't something in the hitch it would be hardly noticeable and certainly wouldn't cause you to bang your shin on it.

For trailer wiring you would want the # 118467. I attached an install video.

If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included to the right that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
