Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon That Allows Bike Carrier to Fold Up
Question:
I'm a little skeptical about OEM hitches for a Subaru Outback Wagon being compatible with all bike racks since they had that issue a few years ago where a number of bike racks would fit properly (I think it had something to do with the length of the receiver?). I recently upgraded to a 2019 Outback Wagon and I want to add a trailer hitch. While I like the look of the OEM receiver I want to go aftermarket. What do you guys have in the way of something with an OEM look that is still compatible with a bike rack and is long enough that I can fold up a bike rack? Any input is greatly valued!

Thank you for all of the information! We have exactly what you're looking for in regards to a trailer hitch for your 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon that also allows you to fold up a bike rack.
There are a few different options for you to choose from but basically you are looking for a trailer hitch that has a hidden crosstube so only the receiver is visible. For the traditional style of hidden crosstube I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13410 because Curt tends to have the best welds and a thicker powder coat which both help to give you a long-lasting hitch.
Another, newer, player to the hidden trailer hitch scene is the Stealth Hitches Rack Receiver # 391SUOB15. This option is designed so that when you remove the receiver the rest of the hitch is completely hidden behind your bumper so you don't even know that a trailer hitch is installed. Some other companies have designed similar hitches but the receiver has a unique connection to the crosstube and it includes a built-in locking mechanism and the receiver block is stainless steel so you get the best of both worlds when it comes to security and protection.
Once you decide whether you want the ability to remove the receiver or not (both options provide more than enough clearance for folding a bike rack) your next option is to choose a bike rack if you don't have one already. For this I highly recommend the Kuat NV 2.0 which comes both in Gunmetal Gray # NV22G and Metallic Black # NV22B. I really like this bike rack because it is the most accommodating and I truly believe that the price point is an accurate depiction of what you are getting. The NV 2.0 is made of aluminum so that it resists corrosion which is backed with a limited lifetime warranty, locks for both the rack and bikes, features that are built so they are easy to use, and a built-in bike repair stand so you can easily work on your bike at the trail or in your driveway.
I have attached an installation video of the Curt trailer hitch as well as a review video of the NV 2.0 on a '19 Outback Wagon for you to check out.
