Difference in Installation Process for Curt Class III Hitches # C13171 and # C13172
Question:
Is the install for part number 13171 the same as 13172? Do you have to the exhaust for the 13171? My vehicle is a 2014 jeep Cherokee latitude.

The two Curt 2-inch Class III trailer hitches that fit your 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, parts # C13171 and # C13172, share the same 750-lb tongue weight and 5000-lb towing capacities and neither one requires drilling for installation. The # C13172 has a hidden cross tube, to make it slightly less visible on the vehicle.
The other differences are that the # C13171 does not require you to lower the exhaust during the installation, or to remove the underbody panels or trim the rear fascia. Just as a note, lowering an exhaust is not a difficult process. All you have to do is spray a lubricant on the rubber hanger (which is basically like a thick rubber band) to help you slide it off the metal support rod and then pop it back on after you install the hitch.
Neither hitch includes a ball mount, pin or clip so for use with either one I suggest the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which includes two ball mounts with differing rise and drop, both 1-7/8-inch and 2-inch hitch balls and a pin and clip, all together in a handy carry bag.
I have linked for you at right two articles with helpful tips for hitch installation as well as the written installation instructions for both Curt hitches.
