Can a High-Low Adapter and Hitch Extender with Winch Mount be Used with Winch on 2012 Ford F-250

Question:

I have a Draw-Tite Reese 65049 front receiver on my 2012 F250 2wd reg. cab. As other reviewers have noted the receiver sits slightly lower to the ground on a 2wd application than for a 4wd application. I want to mount a 8500-9000# line pull DC winch/winch mount plate on this receiver to match as close as possible the 9000# line pull rating of the 65049 front receiver. I want to raise the winch mount plate/winch to at least bumper height and am thinking of using one of your 8inch or 10inch Roadmaster or Blue Ox 10,000# capacity high-low hitches in rise position for this purpose. I may also need one of the Blue Ox 10,000# rated hitch extenders to enable the high-low hitch to clear the bumper/license plate. Any other hardware alternatives to the above that will allow installing a quick on/off DC winch using the 65049 front receiver?

I do not recommend using a high-low adapter to achieve the rise you are looking for. The problem is that you would have to use the adapter, possibly an extension, and then a winch mount. That creates a lot of links in the chain so to speak and a lot of extra stress on the front mount hitch # 65049 on your 2012 Ford F-250.

The use of extensions and adapters reduces the tongue weight, or in this case the vertical pull, by 50 percent. With that many accessories connected the vertical pull would be next to nothing and damage to the hitch and possibly the truck could occur.

The best solution to avoid all of that would be to use just a front hitch receiver winch mount in the front receiver. We have a few hitch mount options which I have linked for you.
