Recommended Class IV Trailer Hitch for a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic 1500 Crew Cab Short Bed
Question:
I have a 2007 1500 chev silverado classic with the old body style . Crew cap, short bed. The original hitch rusted out. It was the curved round pipe style. I want a new hitch that would be rated the same as the original factory one. Which one would you recommend? It is tempting to buy a class 3 but it seems that the original was a class 4.

I agree, why go with a Class III when you can have a Class IV trailer hitch on your 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic 1500. A Class IV though could be rated for more weight than the truck. You would need to check the vehicle owners manual for the towing capacity of your specific truck and, if lower, go by the lower rating.
Curt hitch # C14332 is a good value Class IV hitch that will fit your truck. Curt has a high quality powder coating on their hitches that will help resist corrosion so you shouldn't have the same problem as the factory hitch.
This hitch is rated for 1,000 pounds tongue weight and 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight. When using weight distribution it is rated for 1,200 pounds tongue weight and 12,000 pounds gross trailer weight.
I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK2416. It comes with a ball mount, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
