Receiver Hitch and Trailer Recommendation for 2011 BMW 328i xDrive Sports Wagon
Question:
I have a BMW 328i xDrive, 2011, sports wagon, and wonder whether it is possible to tow a trailer with a couple of dirt motorcycles. If so, what will I need? What kind of hitch AND trailer will be suitable? Thanks for your time,

I recommend that you start off by checking your owner's manual to determine the amount of weight that you can safely tow with your 2011 BMW 328i xDrive Wagon. You will want to make sure that the weight of the trailer, combined with the dirt motorcycles and any other cargo that you plan to carry, would not exceed this capacity.
I spoke with my contact at Curt and the Class I Receiver Hitch, # C117367, will fit your 2011 BMW 328i xDrive Sports Wagon. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.
In order to get you ready for towing, you may also need Drawbar, # C45521, 1-7/8 Inch Hitch Ball, # A-80, or 2 Inch Hitch Ball, # A-82.
If you find that you have sufficient towing capacity to tow a couple of dirt motorcycles, I recommend obtaining a small trailer locally and then using wheel chocks like the Rack'Em Manufacturing Removable Wheel Chock # RA-17, to help secure the motorcycles. I have attached a link to the tie down straps that we have available that you could also use when hauling your motorcycle.
On another note, if you plan on hauling any non-trailer loads with the # C11367, including bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth, Curt does require that you use Support Straps, # 18050. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.
