How Do You Choose The Correct Trailer Coupler
Question:
How do I know if I need a 6000lbs actuator or bigger?

Expert Reply:
An actuator weight capacity should be used to match the weight capacity of the trailer it is going to be used on, and the type tongue it is to be attached to. I have attached a helpful article that explains trailer couplers and how they are typically sized.
The Dexter Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Brake Actuator w/ Lockout Shield, part # 099-175-20, you referenced is used for a straight tongue trailer up to 7,500 lb capacity. This is a bolt-on installation and will mount on trailer tongues 3 inches wide. I have attached a product review video for this coupler you can check out.
