Are There Dangers to Permanently Removing Heat Shield When Installing Hitch on 2015 Subaru Forester
Question:
Your trailer hitches for the Subaru Forester all say the heat shield must be permanently removed. I presume this shield was put there for a purpose. What are the dangers or down sides to removing the shield.

I spoke with my contact at Curt and he said that the hitch will mount in the same location where the shield was previously located. Once the hitch is installed, a heavier piece of metal on the hitch will act as the heat shield.
I personally recommend the Curt Class III Hitch, # C13144, for your 2015 Subaru Forester. A 2 inch hitch gives you the added benefit of having more options when it comes to hitch mounted accessories.
Curt does require the use of Support Straps, # 18050, for all non-trailer loads including bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.
