Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid

Question:

No rush on this inquiry. Several days from now is fine, for a reply. I am trying to put together the best set of items for pulling a dinghy behind my motorhome - the easiest to use, the safest, the most convenient. My dinghy will be a 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid. The towbar that looks the best to me is the etrailer SD Non-Binding, e74ZR. The baseplate that looks best for that is Roadmaster Direct Connect RM39FR. The brake system has two that look good: the Roadmaster Invisibrake RM8700, or the Demco Stay-in-Play proportional SM99251. I am hopeful your team can assist me with finding the easiest system, that will afford me worry-free towing. I am hopeful the permanent parts of the braking system will not intrude too much in the car for my regular use. Thank you!

Hey Ken, you are definitely on the right track for parts needed to flat tow your 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid. The correct base plate kit part # RM39FR will work great with the etrailer tow bar part # e74ZR.

Then for a braking system I would go with the Demco Stay N Play part # SM99251 as it's much easier to use and install.

For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

Jameson, thank you for your prompt response to my inquiry. I do have one more question: On a Facebook response to me, when I asked about running my Escape Hybrid engine prior to towing it, and every six hours, a person who tows this same car model said that a "12-volt line from the motorhome to the Escape's battery is a must." Do you agree with this? If yes, do the parts we have specified for me to purchase include this 12-volt line to the battery? If not, is there a part number you recommend?

@KenM That is a really solid choice. We have a kit for that with the part # RM-156-25 that would be an easy way to get everything you need.
