For your 2011 Ford Escape, you will need base plates, tow bar, wiring, safety cables, supplemental braking, and high-low adapter.

I recommend starting with the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # 4414-3 which is a custom fit for your vehicle and I suggest using Loctite # LT37420. Then I recommend using the RoadMaster Diode Kit # RM-15267 and safety cables # RM-643. This kit includes the tow bar, wiring, and safety cables. You may want to add the charge line # RM-156-25 to maintain your battery when towing.

For your vehicle braking system I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 which is an extremely reliable system that literally just requires a flip of the switch once installed to switch between driving and towing modes. This system gives you a clean look and great operation so it is a customer favorite. It also requires no adjustment after that initial install. The # RM-88400 relay is required to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn.

Finally you will need a high-low adapter, so I've attached an article for you to take the measurements needed and have linked the page to assist.
