Comparing Curt C98JR And EcoHitch C98JR Trailer Hitches For A 2021 Audi SQ5
Question:
I have a 2021 Audi SQ5 and am deciding between the EcoHitch 306-X7397 and the Curt 13499. The biggest determining factor for me is ground clearance more the better and how far the receiver sits from the bumper shorter the better. Ive watched the videos and made note of the measurements, but ground clearance is highly dependent on suspension, wheel size and year/model of vehicle. Are there measurements for either of these hitches that are based on the actual hitch assembly, which would allow for accurate comparables. If not, are you able to share if there are significant difference between these two in terms of ground clearance and the reach of the receiver?

Hello Andrew, great question. I will start by saying that with our videos, generally you can assume that the tires and suspension are stock when we are measuring the hitch clearance. Although, we do not have the tire size or suspension type noted anywhere specifically.
In the case of the EcoHitch # 306-X7397 and the Curt # C98JR (13499) both will have the exact same 15" ground clearance on a 2021 Audi SQ5. The Curt has a slightly longer receiver, so it does have a slight edge as far as bumper clearance. It will be about 3/4" closer to the edge of the bumper than the EcoHitch. So, if clearance is your primary concern, the Curt will be the better option. Again, all of this is assuming the tires and suspension are stock.
If you are looking for a diagram or drawing of these hitches, I am afraid we cannot provide those since they are custom fit. Only the manufacturer of the hitch would have that and generally they do not send those out.
Aside from the Curt having a slightly longer receiver, the only other noteworthy difference is that the EcoHitch has a stainless steel receiver. Other hitches do not use stainless steel, so if durability is a factor the edge goes to the EcoHitch.
