Parts Needed For Towing a Camper Behind a 2023 Toyota Tacoma Without Towing Package
Question:
I have a 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR without a towing package. I want to tow a small pop up camper that has electric brakes. I am interested in purchasing the tekonsha 22117 oem replacement 7 pole harness. It states in the details This adapter splices into the 4-pin connector on your vehicles built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located to the left of the steering column, through a grommet in the engine compartment. My model doesnt have this harness. After reviewing the installation instructions it says to splice in to the cold side of the brake pedal switch. I looked for this wire and there is not much room to install the splice. Is there easier access to the brake pedal wiring that I can access and is there an installation video available for this product?

Sorry for the confusion on the details for the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness # 22117 for your 2023 Toyota Tacoma. Since it can be used as a replacement for the OEM tapping into that connector is easier on those vehicles. Since you do not have the connector on your Tacoma you can simply use a Test Light # PTW2993 to find the correct wire on your brake switch which is on the brake pedal mount. Then you will be able to connect a controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195. I personally like this controller as it is very simple to use and understand with the LCD screen.
If you still need a receiver I recommend the Curt # C13264 as it is made in the USA and allows you to use a Weight Distribution Hitch # FA92-00-0800

Thanks for the clarification. I have another question for you. From what I see in the wiring harness details it doesn't include a mounting bracket for the 7 pin connector. What does etrailer recommend for mounting options for the 2023 Tacoma? Also, is there a way to utilize the area near the tag that currently has a plastic blank inserted? Thanks again for the information. I have already purchased and installed a curt receiver from Etrailer.
