Replacement Recommendation for Square 2K Axles on a 1998 Trailer

Question:

I have dual square axles with a rusted out spindle and I can’t find a replacement online. Trailer was built in 1998 and that company doesn’t sell parts. The problem is the axle has a slight offset for the spindle to the square tubing. The axles I see on your store show a straight pipe with spindle welded inside the tubing for a straight line, My spindle is welded to a square backing plate with four holes for the add on brakes. That square piece lowers the spindle halfway below the square axle. It measures as a 1” drip. I see many 2” axels. Does this mean I need to change both axles to match? Do they still make 1” axles? Can’t find them online. Axles are 2” square. 96” wide. Rated for 2000 lbs. 5 bolt on 4.5” hubs.

You have an older set of axles that don't exist anymore and while I do have a few solutions for you, but they are a different style. If you want to stick with what you have then you'll need to talk with a trailer shop about ordering something custom, otherwise you can go with our Timbren Axle-Less kit:

- Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - Standard Duty # ASR2000S02

This kit bolts onto the trailer frame and has rubber suspension pieces so you won't be reusing the leaf springs you currently have. Since your trailer is a tandem axle you'll have to replace both axles with this style so everything works correctly.
