Installing The CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons On A Boat Trailer Step

Question:

have a Tahoe Q5 and would like to know if the guide posts will work. The rear of the trailer platform is 14inches so would have to mount over the top. The question is since the frame is slightly slanted down will this cause an issue. The frame measurements are 1 1/2inch x 3. The space between platform and vertical brace is 6. I will attach pictures very a better visualization asked by: Ty C Expert Reply: I think what you are going to have to do, since that step extends so far back on the trailer and the frame has an angle to it, is bolt the bracket to the top of the step rather than clamp it to the frame. So basically the post will be sandwiched between the bracket and the step. expert reply by: Michael H Hi: Can you please suggest the best way to mount per your expert above: E.g. how to bolt the bracket to the step. The step is diamond plate so hard to drill any holes for mounting?

Expert Reply:

You could flip the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27620 mounting bracket upside down and just shoot some self-tapping screws through the diamond plate step, but this wouldn't provide as much strength for the posts in the event that you accidentally bump into them when loading/unloading the boat. The best way to really secure the posts would be to flip the bracket over and drill completely through the step and use the included U-bolts and nuts through the drilled out holes to clamp the posts down.
