My first suggestion would be to contact Keystone to determine if they recommend using a hitch on the rear of your 2005 Montana. If so, ask them for the recommended weight capacity. This will be the maximum amount of weight that can be safely hauled or towed on the back of the trailer.

The universal Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 13703, that you were looking at can be used on box, I-beam, and C-channel frames. Keep in mind that trailer hitches are not designed to fit specific trailers. A couple measurements will need to be taken in order to see if this hitch will be a match for your trailer. You will need to measure from the outside of the left frame member to the outside of the right frame member. That dimension needs to fall between 22 and 72 inches. One more thing that we have to check is the drop. The drop is defined as the distance from the hitch mounting flange to the top of the receiver tube. This hitch has a drop of 3 inches. In order to use this hitch, the measurement from the underside of the trailer's frame members to the lowest point of the trailer's bumper must be less than 3 inches. If the measurement is more, the bumper will block the receiver opening and interfere with the hitch and can not be used. I have attached a video of this receiver hitch being installed on a travel trailer. This should give you a basic idea of what you would be working with.

Capacity ratings for the hitch are tongue weight of up to 350 pounds and gross towing weight of up to 3,500 pounds. This would be the maximum load that you can safely carry and tow with this hitch. Just a reminder, you will want to follow the weight limitations of the component with the lowest weight capacity rating. If you are able to install this hitch on your Montana, any hitch mounted accessories that you plan to use need to be rated for use behind a trailer.

When it comes to tandem towing, I strongly suggest checking with the State Highway Patrol for any laws that pertain to this because it is illegal in some states. Also keep in mind the maximum towing limits for your tow vehicle. Towing information can typically be located in your owner's manual or by contacting the dealer and providing them with your VIN. You can also locate the GCWR found on a plate or sticker fixed to the door jam of the driver's door of your vehicle. The gross combined weight rating (GCWR) is the maximum weight allowed for the truck, camping trailer, trailer/boat, and all contents combined.

When determining this weight limitation, the following calculation should be made.

Gross Combined Weight Rating (Maximum Weight Allowed for your Vehicle) - The Gross Vehicle Weight (Vehicle + Passengers + Contents) = The Maximum Gross Tow Weight (Camper Trailer + Contents + Trailer/Boat)
