What Problems Does the Curt Triflex Brake Controller Have with 7-Ways With LED Test Lights

Question:

I saw that the Curt Triflex brake controller is not compatible with a 7-way RV vehicle connector with the built-in LEDs. What I would like to know is which component has the problem and why are they not compatible with each other? Any help on this would be very helpful. Thank you for your time.

What happens is that the load that LED puts on the brake output circuit tricks the brake controller into thinking that there is a trailer connected and the brake controller will start activating regardless if there is a trailer connected or not.

Technically it would work just fine with a trailer, its just that it will always activate regardless if there is a trailer back there or not. I attached installation instructions and an install video for you to check out also.

Hello. We have a 2003 vw wurovan and see very little listed for trailer brake controller/kits. I would like the Curt triflex, but would like your advice. We will be pulling a single axle small camper with brakes. Thank you

The Curt TriFlex Brake Controller # C51140 with pigtail harness # C51515 is actually a great option for your VW Eurovan. If you don't already have trailer wiring at the bumper then that will need to be added too (this would be the case with any brake controller). For a 4-Way harness you can use part # 119179KIT and to upgrade it to a 7-Way for use with the brake controller you will need the Wiring Kit # ETBC7.
