Best Way to Carry a Kayak with a 2012 Toyota Prius IV and Solar Panel Roof
Question:
I recently inherited a 2012 Toyota Prius IV with sunroof and solar roof . I would like to put a Thule rack on my naked roof to transport a very light kayak 35 lbs. please let me know what system plus eco 53” wing bar foot and foot kit will work on my car and if I get the Thule arm lift for ease of loading my kayak will work for the system I wish to purchase. Thanks!

To transport a kayak with your 2012 Toyota Prius IV that has the sunroof you'll need to install a hitch and tow a small watercraft trailer. There are roof rack fitments for your vehicle but only if the solar panels aren't present. Thule used to have this listed but I believe they failed to add it to the new Evo roof rack line when they came out with it a few years ago.
In order to use a trailer to carry your kayak I recommend using the following parts:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11276
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118505
- Mounting Brackets # C83DR and # 18144
- Curt Towing Starter Kit # C45147
- CE Smith Multi Sport Boat and Kayak Trailer w/ Bunks # CE48810
