Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2011 Buick Enclave without Factory Installed 7-Way

Question:

The reason I am contacting you is I recently purchased your trailer hitch and wiring connector for my 2011 Buick Enclave. There was no wires included with the HM40975 Trailer Connector. How do I hook it up to the car ? .

The replacement 7 and 4-Way trailer connector # HM40975 is designed to replace a factory 7-Way if your 2011 Buick Enclave came with one from the factory. If your Enclave did not come with a factory installed trailer connector and you want to add a 7-Way you would first need to install a 4-Way, # 118450.

After the 4-Way is installed to add a 7-Way you would either need adapter # 37185 (if you do not need the electric brake or 12 volt functions to work on the trailer), and plug in the 4-Way to it and ground the white wire.

If the trailer does have 12 volt accessories or battery and electric brakes then you will need 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7 and a brake controller. I have included some links that explain and show the ETBC7 installation.

For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885. It is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up, easy to use, and its reliable.

If you wanted to keep the HM40975 then you would still need to install the 4-Way. Then you would cut off the 4-Way flat end of # 118450 and hardwire the wires from it to harness # PK11998. Its wire functions are as follows:

Red - Left Turn and Stop (will connect to yellow wire on above 4-Way)
White - Ground (will connect to white on 4-Way)
Blue - Electric Brakes
Green - Right Turn and Stop (will connect to green on 4-Way)
Black - Battery
Brown - Running Lamps (will connect to brown on 4-Way)
Yellow - Backup Lamps
