The factory plug is located above the spare tire on your 2006 Chevy Silverado. I have included a picture of what it looks like and where it is located. You will probably have to lower the spare for easy access to the plug.
The tow package wires will be bundled together in the same location as the factory plug if the factory plug is not present. There should also be a tag on the wires that lists the functions of each color wire.
If there is no factory plug I would recommend using the Pollak 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets w/ Mounting Bracket and Wiring # HM40975-11998, which you will have to hardwire into the factory wiring harness. The wire colors and functions of the Pollack connector are as follows:
Red is Left turn and stop
White is Ground
Blue is Electric brakes
Green is Right turn and stop
Black is Battery
Brown is Running lights
Yellow is Reverse lights
