Basically they are the same connector with just a slightly different part number. We carry the part # HM40975 and if you ordered the 40974 from someone else (not recommended haha) you'd get the same thing which just a different part number on the box.

I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out as well.

Hopkins part#40975 says not compatible with 17 Tacoma but #40974 is exact fit for Tacoma. My question is will the pigtail for Tekonsha harness #22117 work with either connector? Thanks for any info.

The Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness w Brake Controller Adapter - 7 Way Trailer Connector # 22117 has what is called a US Car connection on it. This is the same connection used by the other 7-way adapters so it can be used directly with the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket - Vehicle End # HM40975.

40974 comes without a mounting bracket.

The bracket that comes in the kit is designed to be installed directly to the hitch or the body of the vehicle. If you are wanting an additional bracket so that you don't have to do any drilling we have a few available. I have provided links to find them.
