Which Brake Controller for 2006 Chevy Silverado 3500 Series
Question:
Hi. I have a 2006 Chevy 3500 diesel that will be hauling a tandem axle dump trailer with electric brakes. Between the teckonsha P3 and P2, would one work better than the other for my truck? I have the factory cable that would plug into truck but needs end for controller. Does controller come with necessary hook up? Thanks

For your needs, the major difference between the P2, part # 90885 and the P3, part # 90195 is the display. The P2 uses a digital display that shows the voltage output and error codes digitally. The P3 also shows the voltage output, but any error codes are specifically displayed and available at a glance, eliminating the need to consult the manual to determine what the numeric codes mean. The P3 also has the added advantage of being compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems. Either controller would be excellent for your needs.
The factory provided wiring harness will not wire to either controller color for color, but in the following order: The red wire on your factory harness connects to the black wire on the controller, the light blue harness wire attaches to the red wire on the controller, the black wire on the harness attaches to the white wire on the controller, and the blue harness wire connects to the white wire on the controller. If your factory harness uses a brown wire, it is not used and should be taped off and bundled up under the dash so it is out of the way.
I will provide links to the install instructions for both controllers, as well as some additional information about brake controllers and installation.
