Can Wheels With An Offset Be Replaced By Wheels Without An Offset
Question:
Hi - I appreciate all you do at e-trailer, youve provided a lot of trailer parts to me over the years! Ive got a double axle trailer with 5.2k lb axles and 700 15 bias tires with a about 2 inches of offset from the center line of the rim/tire. Im looking at new 225/75/15 radials and rims that have 0 offset. I understand 0 offset is better for centering weight on the tire, but to use these will require some mods to my trailer, which Id rather not do. Is it safe to continue to use my offset rimes, or are 0 offset rims much better on bearings and centering weight. Thanks!

If you've had offset wheels on your trailer from the beginning then it was by design from the manufacturer and would not be an issue. Switching away from an offset could mean that the wheels/tires end up rubbing against the body of the trailer, brake calipers, suspension components, etc. so it's best to stick with what works unless you first measure and figure out how much clearance you have between the wheel and rest of the trailer.
I've attached a link below to our wheel and tire options under the 225/75R15 size without an offset for you to look through. You'll also need to determine what bolt pattern, load range, and whether you still want bias ply or radial tires. For example, the # AM32680 has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern, load range E (2,830lb capacity at 80 psi), and a radial tire.
