Troubleshooting a Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller that Has 12 Volts on Output Circuit Constantly

Question:

Follow up to Michael Hs How to Test a Brake Controller to See if it is Putting Out the Correct Voltage I assume my controller is shot, because I get 12V without applying the manual lever on controller nor truck brakes and Voltage does not change. I get the trickle to the brakes, but no activity by magnets. Is my unit dead?

I was a little confused by the wording of what you wrote, but if on the wiring of your brake controller there is 12 volts on the black wire, 12 volts on the red wire only when the brakes are applied, the white wire is grounded well and the blue wire is always seeing 12 volts regardless of whether the brakes are applied or manual lever activated then yes, your controller is shot.

I attached an FAQ article on troubleshooting brake controller installations for you to check out also.

For a replacement I would recommend our best selling brake controller, the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling controller because of how easy it installs and how well it works. This controller offers more mounting flexibility than the # 39510, is easier to setup and adjust and is compatible with electric over hydraulic trailer brakes.
