Recommended Baseplate For A 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

Question:

Hi, I am getting a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that I will be using to flat tow behind my 2009 Supernova . I already have the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bars from towing our 2009 hyundai elantra previously. I would like the direct connect baseplate without a crossbar at all. But looks like the trailhawk is not compatible. But this model seems like it would be compatible and also will work with the the adaptive cruise. My only other question would be about the mopar flat tow wiring I have seen mentioned in various places but seems rather elusive when trying to look for it and confirm whether or not it is needed

The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521440-5 is confirmed to fit 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee models except for the SRT-8 and Trackhawk so you wouldn't have an issue with your Trailhawk. The Mopar wiring harness is such a hit or miss between different models so it's best to reach out to a local Mopar dealership with your Jeep's VIN so that they can look up whether or not it would be needed. We have no tech notes on our end stating that it would but giving them a call to confirm wouldn't hurt.

To flat tow you'll need a few more components so I have some recommendations if you haven't already purchased them:

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This diode kit will splice into your tail light wiring to display your motorhome's traffic signals through the tail lights of the Cherokee.

It's not required but I highly recommend installing a Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 to maintain the battery while you tow. We have people message or call in all the time having dead battery issues so a quick installation of this can alleviate a lot of headache when you're out on the road.

Braking System: Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700. Since your brake light switch wire isn't usable you'll need the Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751449 in order to get the signal for your indicator light.

If you already have a braking system that you want to transfer offer and just need a second vehicle kit then just let me know what system you have and I'd be happy to find the correct kit for you.

Safety Cables: If you're safety cables are worn or lost then I recommend the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643.
