Do I Need to Engage 4 Wheel Drive While Towing with a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

Question:

I am towing a 3000 lb travel trailer with a 2019 Jeep Trailhawk (tow package) Will I have to engage 4 wheel drive or can I just hook up and go without doing any transmission adjustments? Thank you.

For starters, the Trailhawk trim package is offered on both the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee platforms. I assume you have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk but if you have the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk then please just let me know.

I took a look in the owner's manual for a 2019 Jeep Cherokee and there was no mention of engaging the 4 wheel drive transfer case when towing which is the case for most 4 wheel drive vehicles. However, you will want to use the AutoStick feature (if equipped) if excessive shifting is required. You can review this on page 383 of your owner's manual.

Please also note you will be required to use brakes while towing any trailer over 2,000 lbs with your vehicle. Therefore, if you do not already have a brake controller I recommend the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180. The Echo is a relatively new brake controller that is gaining a lot of popularity. The reason for this is because it does not require any modifications to the tow vehicle, it just plugs into the 7-way and you use your phone to customize settings and activate the manual override. The other major reason as to the growing popularity of this brake controller is because it uses a device you are already comfortable using (your phone), you do not need to read an entire comprehensive manual and familiarize yourself with the controls and codes to use it. Please note that if your phone loses power the brake controller will still function as normal.

I have attached a review video for you as well.
