Comparing Curt and Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receivers For a 2017 BMW X5
Question:
I have a 2017 X5 without the M sport package. I am between buying the Curt 13077 and Draw-Tite 75600 hitches. I see that they both have the same weight ratings, but why is the draw-tite is listed as a class 4? Is there a difference in the ground clearance of the 2 hitches after theyre installed? Are there any other differences? Thank you.

The Curt # 13077 and Draw-Tite # 75600 are both at a weight rating where it could be considered a class III or IV. A class III is rated up to 6,000lbs with up to 600lbs of tongue weight. While a class IV is rated higher there is not a specific number that a receiver must have to be a class IV. You do often see receivers which will say class III/IV since they fall into this similar style weight rating where some manufactures will consider it class III while another will rate it as a class IV.
Personally I feel the Curt has a better fit as it fits closer to the rear fascia. I have included images for each on vehicles we installed in our shop.
I recommend installing the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter Kit # C56190KIT when you install your receiver. This will give you a 4-way flat connector which allows you to connect to the lights on most small trailers you may tow. It will also allow for Auxiliary Lights # C53201 if your hitch mounted accessory impairs the view of your tail lights for other drivers.
