Wiring A Trailer With A 5 Pin 7 Wire Harness
Question:
need some help /info regarding a boat trailer harness. Trailer now has a 5 pin/7wire harness, need to replace it . I have a new 5 pin,5wire harness. My question is ,... how do I install it with 2 less wires ? Thank You . Mark

A typical 5 pin connector will be wired as follows;
Green: Right turn/brake light
Yellow: Left turn/brake light
Brown: Tail/running lights
White: Ground wire
Blue: Reverse lockout
If your 5 pin has 7 wires, you likely have multiple grounds, and/or multiple running light circuits. For example if your trailer harness has two white wires you can splice the two together, and likewise with the two running light wires. This way you can wire in your 5 wire 5 pin connector. Keep in mind that wire color is not universal, and in most cases we will go in with a wire probe like # PTW2993 to determine wire function.
