Parts Needed to Add a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2014 Toyota Highlander
Question:
How does the little transistor box help connect the trailer lights? I have used wiring plug connectors for decades and never had a problem with brightness of the trailer lights. Also what do you do for trailer brakes ? This is the most important question.

The Curt trailer wiring harness # C56217 and other wiring harnesses for your 2014 Toyota Highlander include converter boxes because the vehicle has separate turn signals and brake lights but trailers have combined turn signals and brake lights. The converter box converters the separate signals from the vehicle for the proper output to the trailer. It does not make the lights any more or less bright.
This is a 4-Way trailer connector so it only has the basic lighting functions. For electric brakes you will need to add a 7-Way trailer connector using 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7 and a brake controller. I have included some links that explain and show the ETBC7 installation for you.
If you need a brake controller I recommend the P2, # 90885. This is one of our best selling brake controllers of all time because it is easy to set up and use and its reliable.
