Tow-Pro Elite Operation

The dash-mounted knob puts control of your trailer's brakes at your fingertips. In addition to offering fast, simple power adjustment and an easily accessible manual override, it has colored LED signals that let you know what the brake controller is doing at a glance.

Redarc Tow Pro Elite Brake Controller Calibration

When you are calibrating the brake controller for the first time, the LED lights will signal your progress. To finish setting up the device, you will need to drive your vehicle in a low-traffic area and brake 20 times or so to let the unit learn its orientation and the direction of travel. If your trailer is connected, the LED light will flash green/blue as it processes the information. If there is no trailer connected, the unit will still calibrate, just without the knob lighting up. The knob will stay blue longer as the calibration process gets closer to being done. When the display turns solid blue, initial calibration is complete. The unit will remain calibrated for the next time that you tow. If recalibration is required, it will happen automatically and without LED indication.

Once the brake controller is activated, you can use the knob to set the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. Typically, this power is only readjusted when you experience changing road conditions or if you switch over from a heavy, loaded trailer to a much lighter, empty trailer, or vice versa. To get more power to your brakes, rotate the knob clockwise toward 10. To decrease the power output, rotate it counterclockwise toward 0.

Redarc Tow Pro Elite Braking Output Red Light

When you apply the tow vehicle's brakes, the knob will change from blue to red to signal that the trailer brakes are being activated. The higher the braking power output, the deeper the red that you will see.

The Tow-Pro Elite keeps the manual override within easy reach, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. To engage the manual override, just press the control knob. This will activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

User-Controlled Mode

Redarc Tow Pro Elite User Controlled LED Signal

The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite comes with a unique feature that lets you respond to any terrain or weather you meet while on the road. The user-controlled mode gives you direct control over your trailer's braking so you can have exactly the level of power output you need for any situation - perfect for off-roading or adverse weather conditions. In this mode, the Tow-Pro Elite will apply your trailer's brakes with the same preset amount of power each time you activate the brakes in your vehicle. Set the power low if you're towing through sand or mud so that the trailer doesn't stop with too much force and act as an anchor. When on a steep descent, set the power to a higher level to ensure that the trailer's momentum doesn't cause it to push against the tow vehicle.

To turn on the user-controlled braking mode, rotate the knob counterclockwise and apply your vehicle's brakes. Push down on the remote knob twice (2 times within 1 second) and release the brakes. The knob will turn green to let you know that the mode has been activated.

Redarc Tow Pro Elite review - is redarc elite worth the money

Simple, Out-of-the-Way Installation

Unlike most proportional controllers on the market, the Tow-Pro Elite has almost no mounting restrictions. It comes in 2 pieces - the main unit and the control knob. Because the only part that you need to be able to access is the control knob, the main unit can be mounted out of sight and out of the way. You don't have to worry about dinging your knee on a bulky brake controller or having something in your cab that could interfere with your vehicle's lower airbags.

Redarc Tow Pro Elite Dash Mounted Remote Knob

The dash-mounted control knob can be installed in any convenient spot that's easy for you to see and access. This can be a blank switch panel, an open spot on your center console, or wherever there's space on your dashboard. A universal mounting panel is included to ensure a clean, from-the-factory look. Custom-fit panels are available for certain vehicles as well. Before you do any drilling, be sure there's room behind the dash for the entire knob to install, including the part you don't see!

where to install REDARC Tow Pro Elite on 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe

Once you've decided where you want to put the control knob, you'll need to find a good place to install the main unit. Your only restriction is the 3' plug-in cable that has to be able to reach between both the main unit and the control knob. Securely mount the box using screws, double-sided tape, or zip-ties (not included). A mounting kit (RE67FR - sold separately) is also available for the Tow-Pro Elite. Do not zip-tie the box to wiring or cables that can shift as you drive.

Redarc Tow Pro Elite Adapter, Wiring Harness

The included adapter connects the main unit to a vehicle-specific Tekonsha wiring harness (sold separately) for an easy plug-and-play installation. There's no splicing or hardwiring. Plug one end of the adapter into the wiring harness and the other into the Tow-Pro Elite and you're done!

For assistance in properly wiring the Tow-Pro Elite, please refer to the diagrams below:

Installation Accessories

See etrailer.com's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake-control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

A 30-amp circuit breaker kit (331-CBK30-EB - sold separately) may also be required for installation.

Proportional Braking

What is proportional Braking

The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite brake controller comes equipped with proportional braking to give you the best towing experience. Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The Tow-Pro Elite uses an internal 3-axis accelerometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

This Redarc pro elite looks great in my 23 Subaru ascent; it looks factory. I mounted remote head in front of shifter(very easy to get at)where there was an empty blank.Mounted module to one of column support bracket in spot where it would not interfere with any adjustments of column. By far the longest part was modifying blank with dremel tool to perfectly accept remote head(45 min)(but worth going slowly and taking the tim)This was a completely plug-n-play install.this kit put together by etrailer came with all harnesses so all could be just plugged in; this is why I always use etrailer; I know they have already done the behind the scenes vetting of every product they sell. THANKS ETRAILER

Purchased a 22' R-Pod 192 TT to pull behind my 2019 Benz GLS450 with a factory tow package. It was equipped with the "green brake connector" located by the left kick panel. Contacted etrailer to help choose the correct combination of parts for my vehicle. Was suggested the Redarc EBRH-ACCV3-NA Brake Controller and a TPH-017 Wire Harness. Once products were received, still needed a harness from the green connector to the unit. Wrote to manufacturer in Australia and was told also needed etrailer part number 3066-P. Ordered. Now had everything needed. However, where to mount the switch? One individual with the same Benz mounted it next to the cup holders, but he didn't have a switch for the cold/hot--I did. There was no where else to drill a 1" hole. Got an L-bracket from hardware store and modified it to accommodate the switch. Mounted the main unit securely to the underside of the dash panel and used 3M Dual Lock tape to attach it--no holes to drill. Haven't had an opportunity to tow yet; however, did follow the instructions for the initial "learn" by driving and braking without a trailer attached. Been quite a challenge, but happy with the results and support from manufacturer and etrailer. Happy Camping!

Next level of brake controller

by:

Best brake controller I’ve had. Very easy to use and adjust

by:

Product was delivered as expected. Very good. The reason for only two stars is that the control knob was broken. No LED lighting which apparently causes the whole unit to not function properly if at all. Customer service is supposed to be sending a replacement on emergency status. I hope this is the case as I’m supposed to picking up a new trailer on Tuesday 8/23/22 and a functional break controller is needed. My rating would be much higher had I not had this issue. Hopefully it gets handled right away and I have the replacement by Monday 8/22/22.

Perfect small option. I mounted it to one of the blanks to the left of the steering wheel in our Ascent. It is super easy to reach while driving and keeps with a clean factory look instead of a visible box with led screen.

  • 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 - No Power At Brake Control Plug Under Dash
Hey Fred, have you checked the fuse box yet? Since the vehicle is brand new you are likely just missing the fuse needed to activate the trailer brake control circuit. Your owners manual will specify the exact fuse location for the trailer brake control module but you will just need to check this location and make sure the appropriate fuse is inserted. Based on what I can find online it should be in the engine compartment fuse box # 63, but you will definitely want to check your owners manual...

  • Will the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller for Tekonsha Harness Work While in Reverse
The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller for Tekonsha Harness part # RED63RR will work in reverse just as it does when driving forward. The controller is proportional so it's not going to send a bunch of braking to the trailer while in reverse as you'll typically be at low speed. It will however still apply the brakes when you step on the pedal. If you need more braking while in reverse like backing down a hill, you can simply use the manual override feature.

Yes, the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller for Tekonsha Harness # RED63RR was intended for that specific purpose! It comes with an adapter from the Redarc controller to a Tekonsha wiring harness so all you're doing is unplugging your current controller and then plugging that same wiring into the adapter on this unit - really simple swap and a great upgrade that will save your legs from knocking into a brick while you're driving around!

  • Should LED be Solid Blue Right When Installing Redarc Tow-Pro Elite
Since you haven't finished calibrating the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED63RR yet it won't be solid blue right away. Once you calibrate it will be on all the time if you are in proportional mode. As for the best method there isn't one; you can with or without a trailer attached like you mentioned and it truly won't make any difference at all. It's easier without a trailer attached (because you aren't hooking up the trailer) so that's what most people do.
