Can Washers Be Used To Space The Fulton Coupler Hinge Kit to 2-1/2" X 2-1/2" Trailer Tongue?
Question:
I have a 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 tongue on my boat trailer - boat around 400 lbs loaded. Rather than welding spacers on the galvanized tongue, could I use stainless or galvanized washers on each side as spacers and slightly longer stainless or steel bolts. thanks

You are going to need to sleeve your trailer tongue as washers will not provide adequate support for your tongue inside the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit # FHDPB330301. Since you mentioned having a galvanized frame I recommend having some sleeves welded inside the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit # FHDPW330300 and having that assembly galvanized. Then you can drill holes to bolt the hinge with the sleeves to your existing trailer tongue.
