How To Install Buyers Products Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler

Question:

I see a question in regard to bolt on application of this coupler that has been answered in that 6 bolts are required. At a 10 k rating the tongue is most likely at lest a 3inch x 3inch square tube and likely a 3inch x 4. With the configuration of this coupler it appears that accessing the inside of the tongue tube to install individual bolts or nuts would be very difficult ? Can 3 Thru bolts of the correct grade be used in this application ? If so, what grade would be required ?

Yes, most trailer tongues are boxed so you'd simply use one bolt through both sides of the frame to install a coupler like the Buyers Products Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler part # 3370091560. In this case you would use three bolts, grade five. They'd need to be long enough to go through both sides of the frame, the coupler, and the nut so likely around 4".
