How to Route 4-Way Connector Underneath 2011 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Have a 2011 Toyota Highlander, I believe without tow package my wifes car. I just installed the hitch assembly you guys sent. She was tasked with getting it wired. Now I am looking at wiring. We have a T@G tear trailer that has a 7-pin plug. I am looking at the Hopkins HM11141845 wiring package. I am also looking at the Hopkins 47185 Multi-Tow 4-pin to 7 pin adapter. I have this on my 2012 Escape. On my Escape, I drilled a hole in my plastic bumber and mounted through the hole in the bumper. Your installation video for this year Highlander shows the 4-pin connector residing inside the vehicle on the drivers side. Do you know if there is an easy way to get it outside under the vehicle to be able to connect to the 47185 adapter?

When you install the 4-Way, like the preferred T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118449 over the Hopkins # HM11141845, on your 2011 Toyota Highlander you want to look for a plug at the bottom of your cargo area. If you slit this open you should be able to feed the 4-Way underneath your vehicle and then seal the plug back up using Gasket Maker # LT37467.
Then you just have to plug in the 4-Way to the back of the Hopkins # 37185 adapter and secure it to you hitch receiver using the No-Drill Bracket # 18136.
The only other thing to consider is if your T@G trailer has a 7-Way then it may be heavy enough for brakes which means you need a different wiring kit plus the brake controller pieces and for that I recommend the following:
- Universal Wiring Harness # ETBC7
- Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR
- Wiring Harness # RED69FR
- Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-002
Hope this helps and happy towing!
