Can Curt CrossWing Fifth Wheel Hitch # C92DR Be Used with Short Bed Truck

Question:

What it the turning radius for this hitch before it makes contact with either the can or side rails. Can one achieve the sought after 90 degree turn on a short bed? The Anderson hitch can achieve this due it does take some figuring out whether to position the adapter forward or to the rear depending on individual case measurement. There is no such adjustment on the hitch just the 7 or 8 inch set back. So I am concerned about striking the tailgate, side rails, or cab during a tight turn or backing up.

The Curt Crosswing fifth wheel hitch part # C92DR does offer an offset built into it of 9 inches to help with turning clearance for short bed truck...BUT most modern fifth wheel trailers have tapered noses which are designed for short bed clearance so you may not need it. So it depends on how short your truck bed is and if the trailer has a tapered nose. Most short bed trucks are between 6 foot and 6-1/2 foot so if yours is on the longer side you are probably totally fine.

In your response to Jerry T, you stated that the Curt Crosswing does not have any offset... The Specs indicate an offset from center: 9" Doesn't this help with the clearance for a short bed truck?

@KevinB You are right. I am not sure why I thought that but maybe we didn't have accurate info on the Crosswing at the time as that answer page was written a while ago. I will update it now.
