Should Equalizer and Shackles Be Replaced After Being Shoved Out of Position

Question:

I was at the boat launch yesterday, and noticed one tire off the ground. I thought something happened to the equalizer, but after inspection it appears to be fine. There was some wood in the launch ramp I didn’t see because it was dark, and I ran it over. It corrected on the drive home, and all tires are now touching. I still believe something is wrong for that to happen. Should I replace the equalizer and all bolts and shackles?

Thank you for providing the picture. However you hit that wood it managed to shove the one side up so far it pushed the other side into that position which prevented your wheel from coming back down. I wouldn't say something was necessarily "wrong" other than the fact that the suspension was pushed in an abnormal way from the wood.

Go ahead and inspect the shackles, bolts, and equalizer to see if there are any stress marks or anything indicating damage. If there wasn't a lot of lateral force they're probably fine.

Damaged or not you may want to consider upgrading to wet bolts and heavy duty shackles with the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers. This comes with the wet bolts, 1/2" thick shackles, and bronze bushings so you can be confidant they will last.

You will need to measure to choose the correct size. For 2-1/4" shackles use the # MR46ZR and for 3-1/8" you need the # MR76ZR. If you need to replace the equalizer I can help you find one if you send me the measurements shown below.
