Installing Brake Controller And Wiring For Towing Trailer With 1997 Coachmen Mirada Motorhome

Question:

I have a 97 coachman Mirada Class A and would like to set up the trailer brakes. It already have the four plug in the rear but not sure about the rest for the braking system. I saw another post with the same question and you had a link for him. Could I get that link as I would like to run the wire myself and not spend hundreds of dollars with a shop. Thanks

For your 1997 Coachman Mirada motor home, you will want to check with your dealership to see if there is a harness under the dash of your motorhome. Coachmen may or may not have included the necessary wiring needed.

If your motor home is not pre-wired then you will need to hard wire the brake controller to the motor home with the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. The # ETBC7, installation kit has a 7 and 4 Way adapter that will plug into a 4 pole trailer connector on your motor home and the four remaining wires to be wired to your vehicle.

I also recommend extra wire to run to the front of your motorhome when installing the ETBC7, like part # 10-2-1.

I recommend the Tekonsha P2 Brake Controller, # 90885. This brake controller can be mounted at any vertical angle.

I have attached some links to videos and also a helpful article for installing a brake controller and also the wiring needed.

If you have any questions about the brakes on your trailer or what may be needed, just let us know and we would be happy to help.
