Wiring Kit and Breakaway for Hydrastar Actuator Install on Trailer with Surge Brakes

Question:

Hello, I have a question about how to convert a surge brake trailer to an electric over hydraulic brake conversion. I noticed you write up about how to complete this, but wanted to make sure i understand all parts i am needing. I have a 2012 F250 with already factory installed brake controller. My trailer is for my 30foot cabin cruiser boat weights around 12k. My trailer is a triple axle disk brake set up on all wheels with a surge brake system see pics. I purchased the hydrastar actuator HBA-16 system, but noticed I need more parts to get this working. I also seen somewhere I possibility need the controller adaptor module Part#381-7073 from hydrastar, is that true? I know I need a battery break away kit and wiring harness set up. What do you suggest. Why I am wanting to change systems is that I want a safer way of baking the boat down the ramp by having control with brakes. Currently do not have trailer brake function in reverse so all braking power is from the truck which is maxing them out on a slick ramp.

Your 2012 Ford F-250's integrated brake controller is compatible with the Hydrastar # HBA16 that you have without requiring an adapter. You'll also need the wiring kit part # HS381-9000 and a breakaway kit part # 50-85-313 and you'd be set as you can reuse the brake lines of your trailer currently. This will be a much safer setup than what you have now as you will be able to use your brakes when backing down boat ramps.
