Need Replacement Trailer Idler Hub for 3500-lb Axle Using Outer Bearing # L44649

Question:

I have a 3500lb-rated 1.25inch axle that measures 1.063 on the outer wheel face bearing surface, and1.228 on the inner bearing surface. The inner grease seal I.D. is 1.25. My outer bearing is labeled L44649 FLT-8. I cannot extract the inner bearing to determine what it is. What hub and/or bearings can I use?

If your current axle is rated at 3500-lbs and your hubs use a 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern and outer bearing # L44649, then we have two options for replacement hubs. These hub kits include the hub and wheel stud assembly, lug nuts, grease seal, pre-installed inner and outer races, inner and outer bearings, and a grease cap.

It is usually very hard to measure used grease seals since by the time they are removed from the spindle they can become deformed or misshapen. Original part numbers are always the best method for identifying replacement parts. Also, please note that typically a 3500-lb axle will have a larger diameter than the 1.25-inches you mention. We do offer 1.25-inch spindles, part # TRU44FR for example, but these are for 2000-lb-rated axles.

Based on your quoted 3500-lb capacity, if you axle has EZ-Lube spindles you can use part # 84545UC1-EZ. If it has standard spindles you can use part # 84545BX.

Both hub kits are suited for use with 3500-lb axles, 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern wheels from 13-inches to 17-1/2-inches, both use the same bearing set (L44649 outer and L68149 inner) and both use a grease cap with an outer diameter of 1.986 inches. I have linked product review videos for both hub kits.

If you need wheel bearing grease we offer # L54FR, and if you want to simplify re-packing your new bearings we offer the LubriMatic Deluxe Bearing Packer # L70025. A linked video illustrates use of this handy device.
